Confused 4000k/850nm T5's for veg or not?

So basically my local electric shop has a bunch of high output t5 tubes in the 4000k range for next to nothing.

Will these work for veg well and everywhere seems to point to 4000k being the temp colour for metal halide WTF i thought metal halide was way up in the 6000k range which as we all know is what we shoot for in veg.

Both these things really confuse me
-Is metal halide 4000k and can i save tons on those pricey t5 6000k tubes by using cheaper 4000k tubes?

4k is definitely considered an "all-around" K rating. Sunpulse sells their 4k bulbs as "full-spectrum light good for all stages of growth".

Most people would argue you are going to lose 10-20% of your production by not focusing in on the right spectrums for each cycle.

Well the 4000k's worked a treat, sort of an orangey white. Its only for veg but no complaints here.

I have a 1,000 watt digital ballast and a massive air cooled hood but don't want the excessive energy bill and all the venting, fans, and electrical tampering that comes along with it. If I ever become an established member I will do a journal of this t5's production. I'm having great results at 3 weeks into flower. Buds already the size of your thumb.

Yer my t5's are great but for some reason i miss my t8's, light was weaker but much better light spread.

I have a two foot four tube t5 lightwave for veg and going for a four foot 8tube for flower possibly two of em.

I always flowered great under flouros (not cfls) and dont miss the hps although the yeild was a bit more.

Nice. I'm actually about to switch to induction lights. The iGrow 400 is pulling in over a pound in harvest. You can use it in veg as well and don't suffer the stress on the plant when changing cycles.

Yer i was shocked when i got my first 400w hps but liked the spread of floros compared to a single source. I grow short small plants wit min veg time so flouros have always been an option tl me.

I like how you can really put the flouros close to get really good penetration. I can keep my plants tighter under a flouro than a MH. Control the stretch, control the nodes, and you truly have control of the grow. I can make sativa's squat with them much better than MH.

Nice, I bet you'll have good yields. I have pulled almost 1 gram per watt on flouros. Easily 6 ounces off of 200 watt t5.

Yes that is intresting as i also had a 120ish watt grow and pulled over 4oz years ago which is why i dont mind switching back to flouros. Thing that troubles me is ive seen few people say theyve had close to one gram a watt yeild on big grows

Actually, they should work, but that is sort of a weird spectrum, as usually you are at 7200 or 6500 k. If you strapped for cash go for it as general bulb, and it should do ok. Wikipedia has a great explanation as to what spectrums mean as for each stage of growth. Peace out

Might be growing style and light setup. Maximize the light efficiently and the results should be there. maybe do an A frame type setup of 2 t5 eight banks. That's almost 900 watts. A lot of variables like always though. I've seen about 1 gram per watt off of standing grows as well as scrogged under t5s.

always smaller grows though. Never have seen anyone go HAM on t5s that hard. Always under 500w. I'm going to switch to induction flouros. I have seen people pull over a pound on a 400 watt iGrow. Seem to run on par with 1,000 watt hps for less than half the energy cost. They are a little expensive though. like $800-1,000 but for 10 years on a bulb that only loses 10% of it's output after 75,000 hours, with no heat removal needed, and saving me 60% on energy. I am going to upgrade as soon as possible.

Check them out. You Tube has some good videos on the comparison vs HPS. including cost of running, lumen output, P.A.R., coverage area and so on. Research them and let me know what you find out.

Hmmm i looked at them but not sold overly, i still prefer t5's and yer i think i saw the motorway guy installing them in a tunnel and streetlights a while back.
