if the war on poverty ended today, the poverty rate would double overnight.

does that make you angry right wing douchebags angry?
Yes, consider me an angry douchebag.

There's NO WAY we can spend our way to prosperity Buck. Ordinary people who live on reasonable budgets know this very well. Yet the fucking government can't seem to figure it out.

I like how you used the word Socialist as an insult and proceeded with it as an ad hominem in reply to my argument, which you began with the words Complete nonsense followed by a comma, so as to warn me that complete nonsense was to follow.

Almost as good as Dr Kynes there.
Sorry but capitalism leads to recession and great depression when the rich are too free to exploit the rest. The gov't then steps in to make it work and for a short while you have prosperity for most and endless growth coupled with mindless consumption.
You like how I used the word socialist?bongsmilie
I like the way you gave yourself away by defending it.

Don't kid yourself, democrats have long figured out the rewards of giving other peoples tax money away for votes.

the government is the only thing that makes capitalism possible
And that's where you are wrong in your thinking
Government is the thing that turns free trade capitalism into corrupt crony capitalism.
Instead of the market choosing winners and losers, our lovely politicians do that for us.

private insurance

don't call it socialism
Private insurance...

The majority signing up through the exchange get subsidies. The biggest increase is in medicaid and there is forced minimal coverage to share in the costs.

Call it purple tacos if you want.

It is astonishing that you think my being a socialist somehow discredits my views, but when UB points out that someone is a racist nobody seems to question their credibilty. Oh the irony.

FYI the gov't exists to serve the ruling class and protect private property.

that's just a retarded talking point from an angry douchebag right winger.

all we're talking about is keeping people out of poverty.

What does capitalism mean smart guy?
I'll give you a hint, it doesn't mean you can buy what ever you want or that you don't have to buy what you don't want. Nor does socialism mean the reverse.

I don't know if you are aware, but for a few centuries there have been a bunch of smart people who have inscribed the definitions of many words into bound tomes known as ... wait for it ... Dictionaries.

Or those people would just go out and get them one of those zillions of jobs the comic-in-chief has created. Right?
yep, 78 year old grandma whose social security check keeps her out of poverty thanks to the was on poverty would just go get a job.

go follow some hispanics around the grocery store.

No more wide screen TV's, Ohhhh Knowz.
yep, i'm sure grandma is spending her medicaid transfer payment on a wide screen TV instead of critically important medical care.

Yep, through government intervention, coercion and cronyism. It's actually the worst of both worlds. You left out the fact that hospital corporations also make out like bandits. Our health care is not free market and it's not completely socialized. It's the worst possible solution for bringing down costs.

There again is this false dichotomy, free market vs socialized. Privatization is not synonymous with free market.
