My first attempt at making a real grow room, and growing weed.

So i've rediscovered I enjoy smoking weed.. So i had some seeds and some spare room in my basement and i decided to make a grow room.. I may need some advice.. At first i took some black tarps, and a ridiculous number of large mirrors, and lined three walls.. Don't ask me why I had all these mirrors.. Anyways today i've redesigned it.. I went to a local store and bought mylar safety blankets, velcro, tin tape for ducts... I started by lining the floor with one blanket , then doing each wall, then finally the ceiling of my new room. After this I taped every seam. I had a heater from my previous attempt, and 2 ottlite 20w Natural Light bulbs.. I will attach some pictures and please make any suggestions.. Please note shortly i'll be getting a Kessil 150 w Purple led... The room i created is 49.5 inches, by 36.5 inches, by 72 inches... I have no idea how many plants i can grow in there????.. I have 10" diameter pots to eventually transplant into, but i'm starting them in jiffy pots.. If i left anything out please ask. Also the velcro is for one of the front edges so i can get in and out.. Not ideal however when i decided to create this a mylar sheet with a zipper in it wasn't readily available. what happened to your previous attempt , and what did you learn from?

I'm still on the same plants, they just didn't grow well with the mirrors, and without the mylar the heat was gone.. As soon i was done building it and heated the room it became almost tropical.. I can see now why so many people have tents, but i'm a build it instead of buy it kind of person.. Obviously the more I read the better the growth will be.. I'm a massive newb when it comes to this but I do learn quickly.

Also just a side note.. The whole room cost less than 40 dollars to build.. If i wasn't so impatient I could have got the mylar safety blankets on amazon for 5 bucks for 10..

Cfl bulbs work well with mylar blankets because they don't get hot and cause hot spots , don't get hps you'll.end up cooking them.

The mylar was definately a good choice rather than mirrors good move. From the space i see you would do good to manage 2-3 nice plants in that space. You want to kewp it simple and plain and less stressful to manage. You have to be aware of moisture control as opposed to being in the basement. Basements are moisture containers and a church for mold. The bulbs youhave are probably 1200 lumens a piece thats awful. You want at least 125w a piece for each plant or at least 400w for that space. You will need good air flow to control moisture and youll need a moisture/temperature device to better manage your humidity and temps for your plants. Get you a few oscillating fans to provide aeration for your plants and soil. The original natural way to germinate is to start your seeds off in let say 6" pots that way seedlings dont have to suffer stress from to much moisture in large pots verses smaller pots as to where you can manage watering properly and so that your plant can eatablish good root systems. Its best to first water your pots with a good run off not drench but a nice run off so that while your seeds germinate in a warm climate the water or moisture will last until they sprout. When they sprout put your lights 4inches from the top of your seedlings to keep them growing nice and close, in between nodes. Make you start them in seed starter soil. A good soil for that is "espoma seed starter". Then on the 14th day tranplant them into a 3gallon pot in your choice medium im a Roots Organic man myself. But this is just a basic layout and strategy to get started. Advice from mature growers take all of it in. If it wasnt for these guys id be lost. They are the reason im a well known member already and its only been a few months. Its because of my interaction and input and communiction. So be open to all knowledge. Youll do good. Patienceo_O:peace:

Thanks for the advice... A couple things to add. The house is dehumidified, it's only 35-45 percent depending on the time of year.. The basement is actually 2 feet above the ground and well insulted so moisture is never a problem.. Yes each light is 1200 lumens.. I was thinking about one, possibly two Kessil 150w Purple lights.. I want to keep it simple and everything i've read states they do a good job.. Also they eliminate the heat problem, have a 2 foot diameter, which would fill the space nicely with 2.. I already have a fan in place, and along with the lights i'll be getting a 4" fan with a carbon filter to move air and heat.. I used organic potting soil, and when they get big enough i will be using the same soil (unless suggested otherwise) to transplant.. I don't need huge plants, just healthy... Also this is odd but I will be installing speakers to play classical music periodically.. I've read it helps..

You'll do fine with your grow, keeping it simple (and cheaper ) is best , listen to gargengeezer^^ and alway's remember -- your environment is paramount --

So until i get my Kessil, I added two more 20 w CFL's.. So now I have 4.. Hopefully this will help since most are just sprouting.. I'm curious about watering, and how much water they need.. Also what should the humidity be for the first 2 weeks after germination.. I plan on buying a humidifier, and since they are cheap, probably a drip irrigation system... The nice thing is the room i created was roughed in for a bathroom so I actually have a tap inside the grow room, and I didn't have to put it in.. Once again any information would be appreciated.

ACDC ;)

Actually if you mean for music, it's been scientifically shown that plants do not react well to rock music, classical tends to provide the best results.. I'm assuming that's what you meant.
