Can coco burn your plants?

Okay so I started some seedlings in coco that I flushed through to remove salt so I read. I failed to read up on charging the coco with nutrients and skipped that bit completely as this is my first time using the stuff. Anyway the seedlings are 10 days old and getting noticeably bigger every day. 2 of the seedlings however look as if they have nute burn as just the tips have gone yellow. This is before I added anything to the coco, so my question to all you experienced folk is, is this nute burn or a deficiency? I've never seen either on seedlings so young. Thanks

Of it is turning a pale yellow, that is typically a call for food.

As far as I'm aware, coco is inert, so it couldn't be burning your plants.

Maybe I didn't quite flush it enough. What you say makes perfect sense as I've never seen just the tips turn yellow from a def. I'm waiting for my ph/ec pens to come through the post, I thought I could make it 2 weeks in without them. LOL. Any advice? Should I flush them all and recharge the coco?

Coco come in many qualities and it all depends on how if was prepared. You can get cheap coco but the slat content in it will be super high and your plants will yellow and die... Give these guys a call http://www.westcreekfarms.com and ask them about coco and how it should be used.

Oh, so now regular coco isn't ritzy enough.

Now there's high quality coco!!! :dunce:

Sure there is. You can buy stuff straight from Sri Lanka which was soaked in sea water and a bit of fresh water and it contains lots of salts or you can get stuff that has been flushed/soaked with fresh water to get out the salts. Places like West Creek Farms flush their coco for a long time and can give you the ec/ppm reading of their coco.

Go head and try it, Take anyones coco and soak it in water for a day. Then test the tds/ec and which has what.

I never could get into coco.

To me it seems like an expensive version of peat moss even if they do have different characteristics..
