Greatbranch's Pineapple Chunk, SGS 160, Bubbleponics, ScrOG Adventure

First venture into the hydro arena. I'm a little nervous, but got some back-up from the peeps to keep me straight.

4 - Barney's Farm Pineapple Chunk seedlings sprouted in Rapid Rooters in the mighty Phototron and hand fed for 7 days. I was a bit concerned when I read all of the hater issues with germinating, but got 4 of 4 in 3 days. (The plant mass known as Penelope)

1 - Area-51 SGS-160

1 Stealth Hydroponics, 8 gallon, bubbleponics, 6 plant starter kit (obviously left the 2 center netpots empty)

How long are you going to veg for before you flip? Will you be fitting the screen on before or after the flip?

Thanks, and welcome! Planning to fill to about 80% before, but will play it by ear. I expect it to fill pretty quickly - maybe a couple weeks after their first true leaves show. The rate of growth is the big question mark. Small plants for this one, but that's why I'm using 4 - really to spread them out more and not have a ton of downward pressure from the screen on the bin lid and netpots. I'll keep tucking growth through the first couple weeks of flowering.

Looks good, GB. I don't understand the criticism of this strain that you mentioned. I've always had great luck with Barney's Farm seeds. The germination rate you got (100%) is typical of what I've experienced with their seeds. Pineapple Chunk is a very potent strain. I think it was the second one that I tried after LSD and it was almost as strong.

Regarding the veg period, it's probably best to see what happens and play it by ear, but plan for a short one. I grew 2 plants in a larger tub and it worked out pretty well. If anything, they were too big, despite veg'ing them for a shorter time than Lusinda. I'm sure you'll get buds galore by training and pruning them well.

Oh yeah, and I just bought a 75 tonight to supplement my spinach and lettuce cause the moms (4) are crowding them out with the 190...A51 is legit.

How big is that contraption? I do Hempy but am kind of wanting to go full hydro. I feel like it would be hard to keep the res cool enough?

It's an 8 gallon bin - it's not very big

And on the 7th day, Man created problem...

It takes far less PH Down after using something that has PH stabilizers. Lesson learned. It just kept dropping, but at a slower rate than with plain water. PH was at 5.3 this morning when I noticed my little crispies. I drained out about a gallon, and added some RO water. The signs were more noticeable on the two in the back. I have brought back MUCH worse. At 5.9 now - it is time for Football Observance.

So, I had my PH problem, and Mg deficiency set in at the same time. I should have started a little Calcium/Magnesium earlier. As soon as the roots hit the reservoir and the plant growth took off, it was like someone threw a "spotting" switch for the leaves. Next time, I will probably time the start of Mag/Cal to coincide with the roots hitting the reservoir. New growth is looking good, and really starting to pick up. Full reservoir change tomorrow. I will post pictures then.

Changed the reservoir today. Everything looks alright - the process took me a little longer than I am accustomed, but it wasn't awful. Even with my PH and Mag/Cal issues, growth is moving right along. I may end up vegging for a little longer than a couple weeks, but we shall see.

The next issue on my mind is whether to top them or not - I am leaning toward NOT. I have gone back and forth, but I think it would get too crowded in there for 4 topped plants. Two in the same square footage were pretty beefy in my last ScrOG. I'm going to start training the tops that hit the screen (when it's installed) toward the corners. There will be enough side branching to fill things up is my bet.

Peep the drain and the PVC elbow for adding back.

Still chasing a bit of a deficiency, but I don't want to over correct. Growth is still going about as quickly as I expected. It is noticeable every day now.

I got the same unit and about two weeks into first grow. One thing I added was a dual outlet airpump and two large round airstones in addition to the airpump stone it came with. My res temps hover around 71-72f so I drop in a frozen gatorade bottle once-twice a day. Do you use the nutes provided with the unit?

I do not use those nutrients. I use the Technaflora line.

Time to put up the screen. It has been a bit of a pain in the butt, but the stems and leaves are prehistoric looking! It looks like there's only one leaf that's curled over like it was way over watered, (3rd grid from left, 5th grid up) and growth has been slower on that plant - it was the first to show problems from my PH issue. I am hoping it gets with the program after the reservoir change last night.

An added note...I can't really rotate my ScrOG around the way I normally do, because I need to keep access to the drain valve. It needs some securing to operate without using both hands and creating a mess. One on both sides would be nice.
