A-51 growers thread

Those results you mentioned, GK, were from a single plant or multiple?
I corrected my post. Didn't notice autocorrect changed it from xgs.

All grows multiple plants. First grow was 6 in 2.2 gal air pots. Second, First using both lights, 6 in dwc that had tons of Cyrano bacteria problems and I believe 8 or so solo cups. Last round that yielded the lb was 8 in 2.2 gal air pots, 2 in 2 gal fabric pots and about another 8 solo cups. This current round I have 16 total, 4 in the 2.2 gal air pots the other 12 in 2 gal fabric bags. Clones are kept under low light so I can do a slow veg. Plants stay pretty small usually around a foot tall by flower and 2.5-3' tall when done.

I took these pictures of my photosensitive tent this morning, 9 weeks + 5 days in flower. This is a Big Bud under an XGS-190.

I LST'd the canopy which turned into a deep bowl shape. I call it "The Valley of the Dolls." :) I should have used something as a reference scale, but these things are large. In the background is a Super Skunk growing under the Blackstar v2 180 we talked about. By comparison the buds are spindly. It could be genetics, but 120w actual isn't enough for that space. Some of the SS buds have been under the XGS for a month (I don't rotate too much) and they're larger.

Here's an Orange Bud under the RW-150 (diagonal to the XGS)

Same thing about the reference scale. The bud in the back left could hide a coke can. Just held a tape measure behind it and 3". Hard as a rock.

There is another Big Bud under a custom Apollo 4 180w (130w actual) I bought off Alibaba. It's growing like the Super Skunk. Airy, light, spindly buds but not as spindly as the SS. Like the SS, it gets some light from the XGS and RW.

I don't think anyone would be disappointed with A51. The Chinese lights (which the Blackstar basically is, with onshore support) grows ok. A new grower would get some smoke. They really need to be doubled (or supplemented with those Cree bulbs from Home Depot). But, at that point it would cost nearly as much as an A51.

One space where I feel A51 lacks is the small-scale grow. Cabinets, autos in a 4' tall tent, etc. Spaces where more diffusion is desirable. 3w instead of 5w. Maybe white backboard or wide-angle reflectors like the Hans panel.

Reading Jeff's (owner of A51, username eraserhead) past posts, he contemplated producing replacement boards for the Apollo and perhaps other common Chinese "cartel" lights (the dozen designs that come in 1000 colors and an equal number of brands). That would be a cool upgrade path that would cultivate future A51 buyers.

Ok, I was doing some calculations.

I've used LightHouse Hydro Chromes in the past specifically for flowering and had really good results. I once had a Chrome-6 270W (Six circular pods of 45W per pod) teamed up with a Chrome-8 360W directed at single plant. At the end, the plant stood about 3ft from top of soil. I wanna guess that the yield was around 7-8oz. Quality was average, if not above. Lots of glazing.

I mention this to better understand, not only for myself but for others, the results of various lighting systems for future reference and comparison. There are so many variables to growing and everyone has their own playbook. Results due vary. You never cross the same river, no matter how hard you try.

Those photos of your BB seriously reminded me of the plant that comes alive in Scary Movie 2 and smokes the gigantic joint filled with the stoner in it... good god
Thanks. That's mostly the A51 light and the strain's characteristics, not my skills. I was in the process of diagnosing an acidic soil which turned out to be overfeeding (salt buildup). I also reduced N too much too early in flower. (Some would say N should never be reduced. But, I definitely went too far and had a lot of yellowing, leaves dying off too soon.). Some of my remedies were harsh, like using hydrated lime for the acidic soil and foliar feeding household ammonia to supplement N.

I've also had some thrips throughout the grow. (Should have went after them more aggressively in veg.).

The point is, it's been far from a perfect grow. It's still impressive. I'm looking forward to the next one. I'll replace the Blackstar and Apollo with two RW-75s.

Hey everybody, I bought my first xgs 190 in March and ran 4 nirvana Snow White plants under just the one light. My tents a 3x3. I like this light enough that I bought another last month. This was my first indoor grow but it ended pretty good. I pulled just over 6 oz. of nice solid buds and after a month of cure shared with some friends. I was surprised at the quality a real decent daytime smoke. A better mid than the dispensary stuff. Friends liked it too. You can see the footprint of the light in the center, I turned the plants a few times a day to help with coverage. I'm waiting a while longer for cooler weather then running both lights. I just can't cool my house enough right now. Liberty haze and LSD are next. For now just my cup comp plants under the one but looking forward to the next run. My wife's having knee replacement surgery next week and I'm taking family leave to help her so by the time she starts healing well we'll have cooler weather also and I'll start up again. She's all I can deal with right now but I'm looking forward to seeing her finally be able to walk without intense pain. @az2000, I was wondering when I would get to see pics of your grows. Those buds look happy to me, very nice.20140912_053807.jpg20140712_161520.jpg

OS -those are very healthy looking plants. The LED's you mention, are those A51 models as well or are they of a different brand?
Yes, A51 SGS 160 and A51 XGS 190...2 of the 160 and 1 of the 190.
I am not only impressed with the cannabis growth under these lights but I grow legit veggies under them as well. I actually only grew veggies under them for about the first 6 months I owned them.

You wanna eat like a rabbit every day?
Use A51 lights to grow your food.

Hey Skunky, how big is the area you use for flower and how many plants do you put in there at a time?
2x4- currently there are 16 in there in 2 gal pots. The fewest I've ran under the LEDs was the first round with 6 under the XGS. Will be expanding to 4x4 here soon with a DIY 3070 rig.

Wow, you really pack them in there. I have my RW-75s in a 2.5x2.5 and was told that two plants is probably the max I'd want to run in there but I've been wanting to run more than that.

LOL Yeah. I keep my plants small so I don't have to have extra veg space, stay in solo cups until transplant for flower. Then usually give them a couple days after transplant then put into flower.

Here's the current.

How many days do you allow your girls to vegetate and blossom?

Depends. Some go straight to flower. Though most get 2-4 weeks in solo cups from rooting under 4-A19 LEDs. The first round under the xgs with six plants that have ~6.5oz were begged like 12 days with the xgs on "veg" mode.

So you allow them to vegetate no longer than a month and then throw them into flower, which normally takes what, six weeks at least?
I've always done two months for vegetation and two months for flower.
