Mantis will take care of all that shit. Find out when the butterflies/moths lay their eggs. Might use a screen net to cover for a week or so...

But, when you have an infestation of bud worms, the mantis is no help, because the worms are already imbedded deep inside the colas. The moths in my area come in droves. Hundreds will lay eggs overnight from what i have found. No mantis can keep up with that. Even if they did somehow eat bud worms, how does an outdoor grower keep them on their MJ plants exclusively? I have used them in the past for veggi gardening. The Mantis hatch and fly off, I see a few occasionally throughout the summer, but most of them disperse. I would have to be there day and night, making sure they stay on the plants and don't just fly off, as they do. Suggesting to the OP that controlling a bud worm problem exclusively with a mantis is a fairy tail and kinda irresponsible and misleading to pass along. If they worked so well, we would all be using them instead of BT, but that's not the case..

Again, did you read the WHOLE comment? Along with my irresponsible suggestion, I also said to find out when your moths become a problem and to use some sort of garden netting. You miss that?? AGAIN, if you'd read the whole post you'd see that I'd suggested that it would be "beneficial" (meaning could help) in terms of a "preventative measure"(before worms are present and a problem). Not solely the fix all solution when worms are climbing all over your shit. Comment #1 had nothing to do with budworms. It had to do with "chasing butterflies" and keeping them off/away from plants. (Preventing) Maybe turn off your "selective reading" skill so you can obtain everything that's written. I grow in a greenhouse with doors and screen windows. So when I let a couple mantis go inside the greenhouse, they don't just fly away, they are now my new pets. How about you give me all the specifics to your grow and situation, so everytime I pass some info it fits with your scenario/climate/location. Because I'm not in "your area". Like 'greenlikemoney' also put it, he had no clue what we were talking about because not everyone gets droves of moths like you do in your backyard. There are people posting from all over the world. Expand a little would ya. There's more than just your backyard out there.

I'm thinking about hiring a bug catcher for future grows or planting some berries to get birds to come and hopefully deter them butterflies from getting any where close to my girls.

I see them flying around and I chase the fuck out of them. They always leave towards the side yard like they already know the trail.

Besides nuking my girls, what preventative measures can I take against these horrible beast?

This year I bought some 4 poster bed mosquito netting that I hung over my ladies. So far so good. last year I battled them the entire flower season and lost ounces of bud due to them. This year with the netting I've only found 6 caterpillars instead of hundreds.

Do you even deal with moths or budworms? It's sounding more and more like NO. They start to lay their eggs as soon as buds start to form and all the way through the flowering season for most growers. You would already know this had you dealt with them in the past. Telling a grower that all they need to do is raise a few Mantis and they will be bug free is totally irresponsible advice and I'm just making sure they all know that. You can raise all the mantis ' you want, when the moths come, bud worms follow, there is nothing the mantis do that will help, there's just too many moths laying eggs. Just making sure some new grower doesn't take you word for word and really expect the mantis to cure all insect problems like you had suggested here, "Mantis will take care of all that shit. Find out when the butterflies/moths lay their eggs". I'm done commenting on your hairbrain idea of budworm control with only a Praying Mantis. It's this kind of misinformation that dicks over the new gal/guy...

See Above Comment..... I've already addressed this but it seems hooked on phonics isn't working for you because you're not reading what's being posted. If you're going to quote me, how about quote the whole statement because raising mantis wasn't the only thing I said was it? No, Its just the only thing you seem to be reading. Or are you still only seeing half of what's written? Is it the special selective reading thing that's not allowing you read the whole post? Maybe I'll go the extra step and highlight it for you. Thanks for the bud worm explanation??? I guess stop commenting? Nobody asked you to continue dragging on about the same thing. I'm sure you'll have something else to say so please fill me in on how using a mosquito net and raising mantis on/over your garden is an irresponsible idea...Shelby420 didn't think the netting was a bad idea and from what was posted, seemed to work pretty damn well. What a horrible idea!! Maybe you should look into that.. might help your "infestation".
