If actual conservatives could take Congress that'd be fine.
The GOP however is currently run by neo-conservative religious weirdos.
I'm not seeing that at all. I hear that mantra from time to time. Doesn't mean it's so.
I get an email letter from Senate Conservatives and they are forever lambasting many Republican leaders, by name, for not lockstepping to a true, Tea Party type, conservative set of beliefs.
Just copied this from my Inbox from October 17 as an example:
********************************************************************
Fellow Conservatives:
Congressman
Bill Cassidy (R-LA) – the liberal Republican running for U.S. Senate in Louisiana – just let the cat out of the bag.
He's given the game away, the secret is out.
In an interview with Politico, he explained why he doesn't believe he needs to earn the support of conservatives in the Bayou State.
"They're going to vote, they'll hold their nose, they will do whatever," he said of his state's divided Republicans.
"They will vote. We will win."
This is how many establishment Republicans feel about conservatives, but would never dare say it. They don't uphold our principles because they think we have to vote for them.
It's why Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and the Senate Republican establishment in Washington fought to
"crush" conservatives
"everywhere" this year.
It's why they called us
"traitors" for supporting principled primary opponents and it's why they threatened to
"lock" us in a
"bar" and
"punch" us
"in the nose."
It's also why they made race-baiting attacks against conservatives and used Democrat voters to disenfranchise Republican voters in the Mississippi primary.
They do these things because they arrogantly believe we have nowhere else to go and will forever endure their abuse.
Make no mistake, Bill Cassidy's condescending message to conservatives is this:
I don't care what you think because you have to vote for me.
Well I have news for Congressman Cassidy. Conservatives are not useful idiots. We're not going to be taken for granted, and
the primary isn't over yet!
We're going to fight to elect Col. Rob Maness because he's worked hard to earn our support and he's willing to stand up for our values.
Let's be honest about something. Congressman Cassidy isn't who he says he is. He voted to raise taxes, increase the debt limit, and even wrote a state bill like Obamacare.
He's a former Democrat who donated thousands to Democrats (including to Senator Mary Landrieu) and voted for Michael Dukakis, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and John Kerry.
The only thing Bill Cassidy has changed is the party letter next to his name. He made the change because he sees Republicans as a means to an end rather than votes that need to be earned. It's why he's ducking debates.
Contrast this with Col. Rob Maness who has been driving his pick-up truck all over Louisiana meeting with voters and has agreed to all of the debates. He's also putting forward positive solutions grounded in the principles of freedom that are the backbone of this great country.
If you care about the future of this county and you don't want to settle for spineless Republicans, then donate to Rob Maness.
Col. Maness is rising in the polls despite being massively outspent. Winning this race won't be easy, but we can do it if we work together.
Please don't hold your nose. Let's fight for something better.
Sincerely,
Ken Cuccinelli II
