MH and HPS

I'm debating on whether to grow outside or inside. One question I have though, with space out of mind, how many plants can fit under a single 400watt HPS and a single 400watt MH bulb? My plan is to use one MH bulb during veg and then one HPS bulb for budding.

Lol. How much room is necessary for this? I was thinking like 4x4 maybe. And I'm going to use fox farm grow big and big bloom ferts. Is that ok?

Hell I pack ten in under a SCOG set up just make sure you are using clones if you pack this many in.

The SCROG tech was a thought. Especially since I will only be using one light fixture from above. And I believe I have a good 7-8ft in height, which should be plenty.

I've been doing the same as what you are describing. I finally got a 4X4 tent 400W HPS and MH bulbs and convertible ballast. Well long story short (if you want full story check out my grow) I have a total of 12 in there, yes it is crowded but they all seem to have a similar canopy, I am not expecting a large yield out of each plant do to having so many, I would say if you wanted to get better light penetration I would say probably 6-9 max.

I have a 600watt HPS. Can I just start growing in soil under that? Please Help!!

Very short answer.... yes you can

Long answer.... well there are a few other things you should take into consideration like space, venting, temp control, exhaust, ect.... but if you get into reading these forums you will get what you need to start out. I would suggest you at least go to the GROWFAQ at least a few times look around read up a bit and you'll have a good start to your grow....

Its all technique, you could grow a pair of plants, or 10-15 like new growth said. its all how small you keep them and how labor intensive the grow is going to be. Experience is suggested with the advanced techniqes so if its your first time keep it simple. Grow 4-6 plants in soil under a 400 or 600 hps/Mh, I say 600 because youll be able to work that into your future setups better.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

Thanks for the info mate. I am wondering to get a MH bulb or those twirly fluorescents for vegging and then putting them under the 600watt HPS. Its winter down here so the seeds took ages to come up and they are slow growing. What if I just put them under the HPS now?. I gotta wait till a MH bulb arrives in two weeks. All help greatly appreciated. Cheers

This may be silly but why wouldn't the guy that started this thread veg with both lamps. 800W vs 400W would seem to be a nobrainer.

You can veg or flower with either one and the plants will do their job. HPS and MH just put out different spectrums of light (you will notice one has a yellow/orange tint, like the street lights, and the other is just a very bright light) that are MORE beneficial/useful at particular stages of growth but either can be used during the entire grow.

Kinda like a race car, take NASCrAp for example; same cars run oval tracks that run (real) road courses, they just set up the car differently for these two types of tracks. You can run the same car, engine, driver, ect on either track but they will alway set up the suspension and tires differently at each type of track to perform at the cars best. The car could run the oval suspension on a road course, but it just isn't gonna be at it's best, the driver can make up for some of this with his skill and may even out perform some of the other drivers in cars with correct suspension, but he could have done better if he was set up better, you know?

Hope this makes sense.
