40' by 40' grow room

This is somewhat an unusual grow room and if it shouldn't be here the mods can move it sorry. Got no love on the outdoor thread. Just got the how you gonna pay for it comments as they grow on the cheap cheap.

I own a piece of land and would like to put one of these up and start a crop indoors under some HID's in April and veg some monsters to put out in July and harvest early October. Yes next year.

Will be using hydroponics under natures HPS. Any ideas if this building will give sufficient light to the plants? Using major filters to filter out any contaminants. Ton of air flow + temps under control. Good water and nutes.

The rest of the time I will use it as storage, animal shelter during winter. A slightly smaller version than this at 40' by 40' without the knee wall or pony wall is about $8,000. In my opinion a good investment. I am looking to grow maybe about 30-40 monsters so I will only use a small amount of space.

It looks big but on a 2' wall it really has a much smaller presence. By the way this is not clear plastic so you can't really see what is inside from the outside so this does limit light coming in.

It would be an Absolutely Amazing place to grow if you are not worrying about cops, feds?, RCMP?, gangsters, or fiending stoners

**Imagine a someone trying to spot you from a distance, they dont know what you look like but they know what you might be wearing. Are you going to go sit in a big empty field and hope they don't look in that direction, or would you rather go hang out in a group of thousands of people?**

This is why most successful grow-ops are right next door and you never know it.

Not every grow is a giant white tunnel in the middle of a field that produces the exotic fragrance of such a desired herb.

There are several of these giant white tunnels on my road. They are for housing calves or hay storage usually. Or at least I think so. One more should not draw too much attention whereas a greenhouse would. My property is rather private. It was part of a 1000 acre farm broke into 30+ lots so we are spaced pretty far apart.

I have grown on my land for years with no problems with smell or thieves. I have known my neighbors for years and no issues with them so I am optimistic they will not get stolen. I am in the US so that would have to be pretty dank stuff for the RCMP to come knocking. Gangsters are you for real? Are there gangsters actively looking for barns like these? LOL. Honestly where I live if you keep your mouth shut you are ok.

Can anyone comment on why I posted which was whether or not the plants will get enough light to grow as well as outdoors. I am in the North and sunlight is not like in Florida but most summer days are bright. I have ideas but maybe someone has 1st hand knowledge. Thanks

The manufactures of such building know that sunlight penetration is important for that building, they will have the information you are looking for. Sometimes they make them to 'block out the suns harmful uv rays' that would not be ideal.

I say "gangsters" because I know a lot of people in gangs who actively rob grow-ops, not only for the plants which are usually premature, but for all the grow equipment. I am up in BC, Canada tho and there is somewhat of a gang war happening right now between some dumb kids who made some money from drugs.

If you are not worried about neighbors or smells then it would be a great place, If your going to be using natural light of course. The problems will be with exhaust, heating/cooling if required, depending on the time of year, and lights if you are going to need them. It would just look like every other greenhouse but it would definitely smell a lot better. Depending on where your living I would imagine there is some sort of drug task force that actively seeks out grow-ops, and a big hot smelly greenhouse would be the first place to look.

But like I said before there are so many variables, too many to try to explain online. None of us can truly know the relationship you have with neighbors, how busy the street is in the area, how big the local police department is.

The fact is your the only one who can truly know if the pros outweigh the cons. Like I said many times already tho, if it was legal, and there was no worry of getting robbed or busted that would Definitely be worth looking into.

Personally a couple 40 ft shipping containers....buried and landscaped over would be a Much, Much better option, but again it all depends on your situation and budget

Where I am it is mainly small hobby or horse farms on 20 - 60 acres. 3 of my closest neighbors are my brothers and parents. Neighbors pretty much keep to themselves but everyone is friendly. I have never locked my garage/house/car and there is always a 4 wheeler with a key in the yard. I would honestly think it is safe to say I will be the only grower around the local area.

We do have a county drug task force but they are more interested in catching smugglers driving with large loads and large outdoor grows. It is so cheap here few people grow.

I always saw greenhouses as covered with clear or mostly clear material to allow maximum sun through. For example a helicopter could see green plants if overhead. With these you cannot see inside at all unless a light is on inside and then only shadows. In my area these are used as mostly hay storage or housing livestock. The manufacturer makes no mention of using them as greenhouses.

My point in erecting it is that it would fit with my barns and look like just another farm building. I don't want it in the slightest being suspected as a giant greenhouse.

I have a limited amount of power and Im already close to my limit. Not because of Law Enforcement issues but I have underground power to my property run 900. I can only draw so much juice through the line and to replace with a bigger line or poles would cost me as much as the new building. Will start indoors and then move to the outside.

Yeah light penetration is my biggest concern. I have never been too successful outdoors but think a greenhouse concept will help. Yes I can't use it until next year but I will build it this fall so that I can use it for my calves this winter and start the charade. I will post some pictures over the coming weeks.

You live on a farm with no people around

You will be unable to power enough light to grow indoors with your rural electricity setup. (Stepping up to a bigger line isnt that bad)
but the equipment investment with a large indo op becomes more then the property cost.
This would be the most economical way for a rural person to grow big outdoor buds without being seen
overhead. Hell even a 40x10 greenhouse or even 20x10 could put out immense amounts of buds.

Greenhouses are not seethrough, nor are they suspicious. They can be climate controlled, odor controlled, and grown in year round.

Do yourself a favor, build this building as the distractor from the road side and build a smaller green house for your interests to the south of it (orientation is dependant on your circumstance)

There are a multitude of opaque clearish plastics that let 85% of available sunlight thru to your crops and distort vision enough that no one will know what it is.

If you had a 20X20 (average size garage) green house you could effectively clone and grow several hundred small plants to put out mid spring early summer that you could grow out to the end of season. That would yeild hundreds of pounds with the right plants.

Supposedly, even with mediocre strains if you were to hypotheticaly plant 100 by 100 feet of row crops, you could have a solid ton of bud after drying weight.

Your an ambitious fellow, be carefull if anyone catches this youll be in big fucking trouble.

You can also use polycarbonate with a whitewash on it to get good lumens and make the poly carb opaque enough to hide what you are doing inside. Who manufactures that enclosure? WHat are the walls made of?

as far as letting natural light through that is something that you are going to need to contact the manufacturer. nobody on here can tell you those specs because there are way too many variables.

you said that you wanted to put lights in there? Growing in a greenhouse and using natural light is very different than growing in an "indoor" environment. If you are considering using HID lightning I would suggest building an enclosed space within that huge building because obviously if you have a shit ton of lights in that thing it will be glowing orange all throughout the dome whereas if you simply had another room build inside you could disguise it pretty easily.

If you are trying to do it more like a greenhouse and grow with the natural light then you could just block of a portion of it so that it is not noticeable when you walk inside the building or whatever you want to call it. that would limit how much you could grow and what portion of the seasons but would not be noticeable from the outside assuming you have the smell factor taken care of.

the thing I would be worried about is that if your going to be using it to house animals along side the grow op you could have some potentially serious bug issues considering that any type of mongrel could sneak in on the back of your cattle and potentially devastate your crop which would almost make it not worth it.

now that was a little long winded but If I were you I would probably build a simple covered structure on the inside with proper filtration and seals to keep bugs out and keep all of the environmental factors in check so that you could grow year round, not worry about being inconspicous (it would look like a big shed if you were looking at it) and have dual usage out of the building.
