The culprit is a funky sulfur compound called asparagusic acid. Seems there are two things at work: some folks metabolize it differently, and some folks smell it more or less easily than others.

I read that it's any enzyme to break down something in the asparagus. Some have the enzyme and other's don't, so the one's that don't have Asp. pee. All can smell it though.
