equality isn't fair

“”At first, I was happy to be learning how to read. It seemed exciting and magical. But then I read this: Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand. I read every last word of this garbage, and because of this piece of shit, I'm never reading again!

There have been a lot of threads lately about equality.

It got me thinking.

Equality isn't fair. Some of us are more talented than others. Some of us work harder than others. And sometimes those people came before us and decided to bless their progeny with the advantages their success can afford.

Some of us . . . . .
WHOA! Wait, wait wait HOLDIT!

"Equality"? I don't know of any informed, responsible, thinking person who advocates "equality". The right is spinning this into BS. They have taken the legitimate objection to growing INequality, and pretend it's a call for "equality". All your objections to "equality" are probably entirely valid. But they are also objections to a non-existent issue.

Equality of opportunities are in a way equality of results.

Can you somehow tell me how the son of a poor man has an equal opportunity to the son of a rich man if we don't somehow limit the rich fathers ability to boost his son?
If secondary education didn't put people in debt, a poor man would have equal opportunity as a rich man, equal opportunity in social mobility, equal opportunity in the workforce, the prison industrial complex, etc.

Turn around is fair play.

When we don't want to pay for a woman's birth control pills, the left says we want to deny the medicine to her.

Then who pays for secondary education?

We all do? Through the government. Then who gets to go? Everyone who wants to?

Do we means test touition? Making it free for some and expensive as hell for others?

You know, in our parents generation poor could go to 4 years of college and not be in debt.

Prior to public loans, a person could cash flow college on a modest income.

People who argue against social relief programs should lest they want to be considered a hypocrite
I agree with you that people who give their money might fall within your description.

But not folks who have their money forcefully confiscated.

Her dissent was given absent choice. Therefor her acceptance of these benefits is beyond anything hypocritical.

You can't check a box to opt out of social security.

Taxpayers pay for secondary education. I would have no problem at all if my taxes funded a students college education. Having an educated population is beneficial for society.

Who gets to go? Those that have the grades and pass the entrance exams, like any college.

The price is the same for anyone: free, as long as they keep sufficient GPA's & don't fuck around and get in trouble with the law

Taxpayers pay the salaries of teachers, deans, janitors, service people, gardeners, etc..

Students are not required to take out loans, freeing up another aspect of the financial system.

Every measurable metric shows American citizens are overwhelmingly in favor of providing taxes to support secondary education to educate the populace, the problem, as usual, is the allocation of funds and the lobbying industry for greedy fucks in the education industry. Croney capitalism.. These people should be put on trial for treason against the American people.

Though you certainly can check a box to opt into it..

Can you tell me why that matters, considering her choice to accept it?

She didn't believe in it, she paid into it, then she utilized it. Wouldn't her message of "this is all bullshit" have exceeded herself if she didn't use it? Wouldn't' it have actually meant something had she said "fuck you, I don't agree/need this shit!"?

Yeah, most reasonable non communists feel that equality means opportunity not outcome. That being said history has shown that more income equality makes for a better society so in that regard a little equality of outcome is good.

Ayn Rand was was certainly a hypocrite for going on and on about how collectivism and altruism were evil but relying on them. She would have been delighted to see anyone deprived of those benefits and even said it would have been for their own good.

The Romneys struggled in college. They didn't have jobs so they had to sell some stock that mitts father gave him.

Why care about something that doesn't directly impact you.
That's a weird thing to say, man..

I eat 3 squares a day yet it bothers me millions of people go without food

The way animals are treated in factories bothers me

Human rights abuses in places like Africa and North Korea bothers me

I care about all these things, even though none of them affect me directly

I also deeply care about people who fight every day just to eat a meal.
Animals and the elderly are my soft spots, I do what I can, more than most but I guess It's never enough.
So, you got me there Paddy touché.
