Anyone here doing or have done a 100% perlite hempy? if so, how often did you water/feed the seedling before it hit the res? and after it hit the res? is it possible to overwater if it is pure perlite without rockwool or jiffys?

Folks have done this successfully. You probably can't overwater and in fact will need to water much more frequently. Have you considered a coco/perlite mix? A good balance that will retain moisture longer but still be nice and airy.

I really enjoy 100% perlite hempy! In the very beginning you want to water a few times a day til the roots reach the bottom reservoir. After that you are proabably going to water every 2-3 days until you get to the 4-6 mark then you will be watering every day. You cant overwater so dont worry about that. I at the 8 week mark I am giving them about 24oz of water a day before it starts to overflow.

Word of caution: Make sure you thoroughly rince the perlite before you put your plants in there. If not there will be a ton of dust at the bottom that the roots cant drink from and are basically overwatered no matter how much/often you water. I had one plant that I couldnt understand what the issue was until I starting doing the "how to harvest a pound every 3 weeks" method. I took my plant out and at the bottom was nothing but "sludge"

This is from my experiences, but I am very new.

I did Hempy last round with great success. Make sure you water directly down the stem, this will cause the roots to seek the water straight down. They will spend more energy going down, opposed to out. If you water everywhere it will take days longer to reach the res. you could probably get away with doing it once a day, I'd try at least twice a day, once when you get up, and once before bed. You will be able to tell when it his the hempy res, as you will see a huge boost in leaves and growth when it does. Once they hit the res, you can water every couple hours to couple days. I was doing watering for 15min every 4 hrs, but next time I'm going to do it once a day. This way there will be less humidity. You could probably get away with every 2-3days.

Like at the end? It depends who you ask, some will say a week, others will say not at all. I just flush for a day or two.

Ok so excess salts from fertz wont build up in this medium? Because im 4 weeks into flowering 2 purple kush in pure perlite hempys 5g. 1 is a monster 2.5ft square the other has always struggled alittle but not too bad 2ft square but in the last week the smaller one got a little nute burn so i backed off and it still doesnt look good theres little yellow dots on the fan leaves now. So i got worried this morning so i flushed them both with 5L of phd water. I grew in 50/50 coco perlite last time and flushed once a week. Just wondering if the same has to be done with just perlite?

I did a flush on my perlite plants and all, but one loved it! That one, in a matter of 22 hours earned me crispy leaves literally crush on touch! Does anyone have an idea how that even possible had only a few tiny tip burns to after flush crunchy leaves?? I used the same everything even the amount of flushing done was the exact same. is there a thing like root shock that would stop the roots from uptaking water?

I have done 100% perlite and 75/25 perlite/vermiculite ....both work much the same, just have to water less often with the vermiculite

as any hempy....water when bone dry is best....you can over water but all that happens is it will droop a bit, no damage

do all of you use rockwool cubes or jiffy inside the hempy? or just straight perlite or perlite/vermiculite

to my disapproval rockwool, would much rather have something with out going as it makes the smoke harsher then it should be.

never have flushed a hempy (perlite)
I'll second that

I clone into rockwool, I did try a conversion from soil to perlite, I did get a Good yield, however the roots looked not great.probaby too much moisture. I would suggest rockwool over jiffy.

Are you saying that you feel like rockwool makes the weed have a harsher taste? Because all mine was smooth. Maybe because I'm using a 1" cube.

I grow currently in pure perlite. Same 2 100L bags i bought a year ago.

I start my seedling/cuttings directly into pure perlite in solo cups with a plastic baggy over them. Sink em deep. Like in soil you only put them in a inch or so. I drop mine in almost 2 inches. Water daily after the first 8 days. I find the small cups stay moist for awhile. after theyve rooted i transplant them into 3.5g buckets.

I have found that the super course perlite works better for reusing. however my root ball was denser in the smaller grade perlite. But this will be my last hempy grow. Its great for a cheap easy start up. And for a new grower this system is tits for learning, especially using the lucas formula's Floranova Bloom. (depending on water, you may need some cal mag) Just tired of being on the nute bottles.

For those saying that Rockwool is making your weed harsh, its not the rockwool. If you start in rockwool and transplant to your buckets, DO NOT DUMP WATER OVER THE ROCKWOOL. lol. Pour around it. the cube will pull in some moisture. But if you dump right on it it will soak like a sponge and choke your plant. I wouldnt use Jiffy pellets unless you toss your perlite every grow(wasteful if you do). And Rockwool is a unnecessary expense imho.

Germinate in rapid rooters and place in solo cups 100% perlite. Then transfer to a 3 part perlite to 1 part vermiculite. That's how I do it.
