Where do the buds grow

This seems so stupid but I know the main cola is the bulk of the bud. But where does the rest come from. I see that at every node there's a fan leaf and then a smaller branch on top of the fan leave with nodes of its own.

This other growth (not sure what it's called) not the big fan leaves is what is used to clone right? Do these grow buds on them? If so is it goo practice to kinda pull them towards the light and tuck the bigger fan leaves under them to expose them to the light and these along with the main cola(s) is what pops through the screen in scrog?
Here's some pics The one I the left I topped and tucked the big fan leaves under those others. It's a freebie reg skunk. I do want to put a net on this one.
The one on the right is SSH and grew about 2" vertical when the lights went off. 20/4 btw. I did not top as you can see wanted to try some bending but since this is from a female seed I want to make sure I don't hurt it. I'll play more with the clones image.jpg

You can kinda see where I topped it and how I arranged the fan leaves

This is the SSH would bending the main cola and tieing it down be advisable? Seems like it's shadowing all the growth under it. The growth that I was able to move around on the skunk isn't as long on this

I know it's a stupid question lol n I've looked at a million pics but it's so different in real life. Some of you guys say just leave alone others say trim a little. I'm not sure what to trim or leave. As the plant on the left is super bushy can't imagine once she gets into real light

Nice little plants! Looks like young indicas. I hope they are in separate containers!

I don't trim anything healthy off mine. until the first week of flowering, but I use a screen.
I let them grow into flowering, and after the first week, I will prune my lowest branches off, and set up my screen above them.
After the second week of flowering, I begin to tuck the buds under the wire mesh, and I will also look under the screen for weak branches that have no chance of reaching the screen, and being productive.
By week 3 of flower, my plants continue getting tucked under the screen, and some final trimming under it. I make sure I leave enough room under there to reach in and water them.
After that, I don't really touch them until harvest time.

btw, Buds form at the nodes of the branches. The colas are the largest at the tops of the plants because the nodes grow tighter together. Nodes on the bottom branches are further apart. Think of it as a top bud is like having dozens of popcorn buds growing all together as one big bud.

They look good and bushy. How long you going to veg? You could top one more time, let it recover, and flower for 4 tops. The branches below will flower too. What is your lighting? Peace.

Thanks bro deff the answer I was looking for. The plant on the left is SSH which I believe is a sativa dominate strain... They are in the same container should I seperate them? I planned on putting them both in a 10gal tote to flower. So I'm only feeding and pHing one big thing rather than 2 5 gal buckets. I want to do a screen as well bc of space to maximize my yield but this is my first time so I figured not to mess with them much (that's why I only topped the 1 plant that could still be a male. It was from a reg seed. The SSH was a female bean so I didn't touch it lol) thanks for explaining where the buds grow

Thanks for the reply. I actually want to put these to flower as soon as my light gets here prob a week. They are 23 days old since sprouting and putting directly into the clay no rockwool and no rapid rooters (I know everyone says to use them but I didn't have and it's my first run and my roots look great so...) they're under 4 23w cfls 92w total. Going to add another 2 cfls. I really didn't want to mess with them much but when these to flower I'm going to pull 4 clones from each and those ill play around with. I just want to start making my own smoke ASAP instead of buying. Sucks buying the equipment and bud at the same time lol thanks for clearing up that the branches below will flower also

Yeah, separate them. I hear ya though. I went from growing 4 plants to 1 plant. I do cfl too (one 200w bulb). The buds won't be as dense as with an hps, but I don't care. The smoke is just for me, and I put it in a vaporizer. The yield is good for me.

Sounds good! Good luck on your grow! Peace.

This is my ONE plant, that I'm scrogging (3rd week flower). If all these bud sites get about 5"-7" tall, that'd be cool.

I am not sure you can separate them now, without hurting or killing them both.
If their roots are tangled together, anything you do wilI severly stunt them.
I advise letting them be, but do it different next time
Problems occur when 2 plants compete for nutrients, next time, 1 plant = 1 pot.

Cool thanks man I'm actually just vegging under the cfls and going to flower under a 400w hps

Thanks for the reply these are actually going to go I to a bigger tote to flower. I was just vegging in this small one. I check the roots daily and they're not tangled with each other at all. I was planning on putting them both in 1 10gal tote instead of separate 5 gal buckets bc I've seen a lot of people on here multiple plants in a large tote. I was actually going to try and fit more than 2 in each but I've read that if one plant gets sick it will spread to all of them so I was planning on 4 plants 2 in each tote. Should I use separate all together? I've read that it's much easier to adjust nutes and pH using 1 larger res rather than multiply buckets. Thanks again!!

How can you check the roots daily?

If you are determined to seperate:
Use a tub of water, and dissolve as much of the soil away to make untangling the roots easier.
If you try to play with the roots under water, its a lot easier on the plants.

Lol sorry. Maybe that's the confusion it's hydro. I just lift up the lid to see my perdy white roots. I wouldn't have put to plants in one soil pot.
