Humidity and it's importance in the grow room.

I've read an article on GrowWeedEasy.com about the importance of humidity in the grow room and how it affects yield and resin production ect. My question is, of all you experienced growers here in the informative RIU community, how many of you keep a close watchful eye on humidity and if so, does it truly help in all the ways that this article says it does? I have a small 5'W x 5'H x 2'L with an average temp of 70 degrees and humidity of 72~, I know this is high and may make for mildew problems in the future but is a dehumidifier something I should seriously consider investing in? And if so, maybe some suggestions on an appropriate unit for the size of my room or alternative options?

I can't point you in the direction for the proper unit for that size room.. But what I can tell you is humidity is important to keep in Tact if you want to save yourself many headaches and sleepless nights. Bud rot, powder mold, fungus gnats. Some of the problems your asking for with a higher humidity.

And more so than the rise of humidity, fluctuation is what triggers the mold problems . You need to keep the humidity at steady at 40-50. Proper air flow is also important

Thank you Patrickkawi37 and GrowinDad for your inputs! So how about adding in an oscillating fan or two, 6 inch each, could that help reduce the humidity enough to maintain a stable, low humidity without fluctuations? Or should I just invest in a dehumidifier down the road?

I mean a dehumidifier is the obvious route but I'm trying to find a way to lower the humidity without spending too much money as I am on a budget

theres tempory ways like a bowl full of salt or those £1 crystal de humid thingys....but there shit and are tempory......i cant think of any way but a dehumid.

I've been looking at a small dehumidifier for my tent grow and I wondering, can a small dehumidifier like this one(http://www.homedepot.com/p/Perfect-Home-4-Pint-Dehumidifier-EWDH4/202261882) do the same job as a bigger more expensive unit? I mean, I only need it for a 5' x 5' x 2' space and I'm going to have a small 6" fan on at all times. This unit is only a 2 liter(4 pint) intended for small closets or crawlspaces which sounds about the size of my workspace, but on the other hand, I hear that plants exfoliate almost 98% of the water we feed them via soil, into the air. If that's the case, for 3 plants I would in be replacing it 3 or 4 times a day correct? By the way, thanks for the input's Flash63 and Bradburry!:bigjoint:

Most dehumidfier's have a hose attachment for drainage...i have a small one, i had to drill a hole and let it drain into my flood table,works great for yrs

I have a Haier dehumi amd it has the hose attachment on back but never would drain out thee hose so i just drilled a hole into the water catch can thing installed a ebb n flow fitting attached a hose and put it into a drain in my room works well. Set it akd forget it. I run 60-65%in veg and 50% in flower. I might lower it down more in flower

I grow in coco (root bags) DTW,i put them on flood table's,so easy for hand watering,also allows me to grow multiple strains at once...i like my variety

I dont use.my water it just drains into the house spetic system. I grow soil(organic). I use rain water as much as possible if not i use tap water and allow the water to bubble with a lil compost and mollasses for 24hrs.min to neutralize chloramines. Then i brew teas or etc

@Flash63 @anzohaze My setup is organic as well and i did a bit or research and popped up everywhere that the dehumidified water is essentially tap water or "grey water" as they called it. Said its suitable for plant feeding and septics but still, I'd assume clean distilled or rain water is the safest route for an all organic grow. But compost and mollases brew? Sounds interesting

Yes rain water when possible( not sure why people don't use it)R/O in the winter mixed with municipal ppm200-300 starting point...
