Curing Large amounts...

im running multiple strains so i will be have multiple jars and was wondering whats the process everyone is using to cure large amounts of bud. what i want to know is after drying when jarring and there is a need to test RH of jars what are you guys doing? are you buying 10-20 hygrometers and placing in ea jar? I have the boveda packs but i still want to know where i stand before placing my packs in the jars. if using hygrometers for each jar...this could get pretty costly. there has to be a better way

Multiple strains is tough. I don't have a large harvest but I have almost 20 strains so I can relate.
I use these but I only have 4. What I'm beginning to learn is that I can go by experience and feel to know right when to jar them. I've always been an early jar'er as it turns out. What I am personally finding to be perfect is a very slow hang dry, into the jar for 12 hours, open jar for 12 hours and then close it up and i'm right around 60%. Obviously it is more involved than that..your temps and RH mean everything. Im drying at 54 degrees and 40 RH which is awesome for a slow dry. I think the key is to not jar too early. Once you can figure that out, you can jar and sweat, then open dry and then back to the jar and have it be perfect. Gotta figure out a way to slow down that initial dry tho. My 2 cents for what its worth.

yeah i think mine is drying too fast. 3/4 days max. i seen ppl on here said they were drying 7/10 days. are you using an ac? how the heck you getting down to 54 and 40?

It's just because of the weather and the fact I'm in a basement. Prior to this grow, 3 or 4 days of dry time was what I was used too as well. This was the first time I've ever had plants take as long as they are...6 days minimum...many are taking 7 and 8 days and it is a HUGE difference. By the time I cut the buds off of the branches they have already lost all of that hay smell and the distinct smells of the strain are already present.

If you are stuck with them drying at 3 to 4 days, you're just going to have to spend much more time on the cure. I can't stress enough to get yourself some of those hygrometers.

yeah im in a basement too but im still sitting at around 70 degrees. your def right about the hay smell...thats exactly my main issue at the moment. i found those lids directly from the company and they are a little cheaper and even offer bulk deals..im placing my order any moment now. thanks for all the help. was hoping there was a better solution..guess not.

what do you determine to be large? a large harvest for a closet grower isnt the same as a large harvest for an ourdoor grower.

I haven't found anything as cost-effective as quart mason jars, but the volume of jars gets ridiculous. I just did 4# in quart jars..... the burping/curing process sucked.

I know some of the really big guys go rubbermaid bins.

this is true. guess that was a pretty open statement. we are right about the same place..4# growing indoors. are you placing hygrometers in ea jar?

No....i go more by feel. Don't want to buy 100 hygrometers... 65% of the time, it works every time

I cure in 36+ 1/2 gallon mason jars. each and every jar has its own r/h-temp meter and I have just about 100 medium 62% humidity packs as well. im an underground grower myself. consistent 70-72* year round is awesome, as well as the <50% r/h to boot. 3-6 days on drying racks (I harvest and trim fresh), then into the jars they go. its a pita burping and checking 36 1/2 gal mason jars, but well worth it.

Go down to Home Depot and get some 5 gallon food grade white plastic buckets with snap on airtight lids. Depending on strain they can hold up to 3 units if filled completely. We usually put only two or so units in and leave some air space so we can roll em around and separate the buds that tend to stick together. Then we take the buckets and put them in a cool dark room for curing. Usually empty 'em pretty fast so no worries about plastic leeching or anything like that. Much easier than messing around with hundreds of mason jars, lol.

If you don't want to use so many jars, you can always get 5 gal buckets. Same concept as a jar, less hygrometers.
Recommended for a large grow...
