How do you identify the sex of a mother plant?

So when you want to clone a plant you have to keep in veg growth, so how do you find out if the plant you want to clone is male or female?

...... I was gonna say wouldn't a mother plant already be female in order to BE a mother plant ? :)
But I know what you mean. Like somebody said take a clone or even cut off a branch and put it in water and flip it to 12/12 and 10 days or so later, you'll know for sure.... :)

Hit it with 1212 then switch it back at the very first signs of sex might work but if it's not a forsure female anyway what's the harm in trying

(Already said, but I like the video) Cut your clones first, then flower one of the clones while the rest stay in veg with the mother.

Just flip as bassman said. Within a wk it should show sex, then go back to 18/6 if female.... if not pop another seed. Reveg at this point will take less time than setting roots with a clone and flipping. Best option would be to take a couple of clones, then flip and grow out, if female then use clones for mothers.
NOTE: You need at least 4 nodes to flip and go back.
