I'm about to buy a ready made PC grow box and grow a single plant, probably Red Dwarf. I can only put it in my attic, which gets damned cold during the winter, freezing or just above. The grow box comes with four CFLs, so I was wondering would they generate enough heat to keep my little Dwarf cozy? I was also going to try insulate the PC Grow case. The attic is my only choice, so I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks

First off, I am really impressed by people's ability to grow in a PC Box, because I can't imagine trying to keep a plant that small through flower! IMHO, not for a newbie but I am not expert on it.
Your CFLs will keep it warm while lights are on, but not when they are off. My guess is that you would have temp problems at night. Maybe if you try an auto and go with 24 hr lights.
But all in all, my best advice is that is not a great idea to try to learn to grow in such a challenging environment. First grows are always a challenge and a learning experience.

Which pc box are you looking getting. Your problem will be during dark hours. If anything you may need to get a heater up there. I have a mrgrowpro and have done a few grows. I have built a few cabinets since. I am going to use my PC box for clones after my bubbleicious is done.

Not a micro grower, but..... I run my lights at night, the room stays warm enough during the day no problem, lights on at night brings the temps up enough to where my heater barely kicks in at night.

Thanks for the advice people. Unless I get a divorce (highly unlikely) I have to be a microgrower, which is why my mrgrowpro is on its way, and why it's gotta go in the attic. The things we do for love huh? I'm gonna try an auto flower red dwarf and see how it goes. Should I just use the flowering CFLs 24/7? And Growindad, if a form asks about education, enter 'ongoing'. Then again he may be risking more buying/possesing/transporting every time he purchases. This grow can be tucked away from law enforcement (if need be) and his wife (my wife never goes in my attic EVER) and he can have a nive hobby, pride of smoking his own and less risk than purchasing from a dealer every so often.......
You have a valid point, but I dont wanna give any financial support to people who I believe are doing more nasty deeds than just selling weed, if you get my drift. And Joven Agricultor's right, my wife has never been up in the attic and I doubt very much if she ever will. Plus I think I'll get a tremendous kick out of smoking the fruits of my labour. I've worked and paid my taxes all of my life, raised a fine family and helping raise fine grandchildren now, if the man is gonna criminalize me now for enjoying natures beauty, then I'll take my chances with my own home grown, but I aint supporting thugs no more. I started to grow for much the same reasons. How much do you consume? Remember the time it takes to grow vs probable yield. Will it be enough (assume maybe an oz per plant).
Still, if your wife never goes in the attic, then why not get something a little larger than a PC box (and a heater)? Also, make sure you are thinking odor control. If your A/C or HEat system is in the attic, as mine is, having a grow with no odor control could send the smell throughout the house.

About 2 ounces in a year max. I was considering a small grow tent, inline fan and 250W HPS but I'm worried about noise. The beauty of the mrgrow pro is that its basically a plug in and grow unit with built in carbon filter, totally self contained and makes as much noise as a PC, which definitely wont be heard. According to a lot of PC growers I've read a single grow can yield up to 2 ounces, so two or three grows in a year and I'm a happy camper. I used to get enough from a fellow toker and good mate, but he passed away a while back. I have some of his ashes and I intend mixing a pinch of them in the soil - he'd get a kick out of that! I'm wondering if I should replace the four 2700k CFL's with 6500k, or maybe two of each?

So, are you hiding it from your wife? Honestly, I've been there done that and it crazy stressful. It's so much easier to be open and honest about it. You can make assurances to keep everything safe and secure and odor controlled as possible. I hid the fact that I smoked for a while and that didn't go well. I committed to being upfront and informative with her about looking into growing. I found the mrgrowpro and showed her all the features and told her I would take all precautions. Does she know you even smoke?
Yes, she knows I like a spliff and doesnt have a problem with it. I showed her the youtube video of the mrgrow pro and like you tried to reassure her, but she said absolutely no way was I to grow at home, and after many years of marriage I know she means no. I dont like sneaking around behind anyone's back, especially my lady wife's, so its either go underground or give it up.

Thats for sure. I think I can pull it off though cos she works every second or third day, leaving me with an empty house. I'm just hoping I can get away with visiting my lady friend in the attic 3 times a week to keep her hydrated, fed and loved! This is gonna be my first ever grow, either a red dwarf or northern lights. Do you think a little lady like either of those will only need watering three times a week? I'm also going to try and train her into a SCROG net/screen that comes with the mrgrow PC grow case.
