germinating problems, help please?

its been 4 days and my seeds haven't germinated, one sprouted in the soil but the rest wont seen to pop. iv got multiple seeds in the soil and even more in a moist paper towel that's in a Tupperware container on top of my pc case that gets relatively warm. how long will it take the seed that did pop to break soil? about 3 weeks ago i had no problem with them germinating. i got over 1000 seeds from a plant that got pollinated this last summer. am i not doing it right? am i missing something? my girlfriends bitch mom shook them while they were in the jar before i germinated them, if that would make any difference.

You can try adding a tiny bit of hydrogen peroxide to whatever you are germing them in, I use about 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 4 parts water, and almost everything pops within 48 hours.

Tried the water thing diabolical666, and thanks for the tip ace I'll try that now. The one popped and the seeds getting light, but the shells still on it. When will the she'll break off?

why anyone would put something in a pot without knowing it's germinated still boggles my mind.
it would take severe shaking for extended period of time to damage a proper mature seed so i don't think the shaking did anything. what 's going on here is ratio of viable seeds taken from the plant. you know not everyone of those is fully developed, even if they look like they are.it'll take about 2 days for that little one to break soil depending on how far down you put it. it has to gain a foothold before it can have enough upward force.i've got proof it can take 2 weeks or more for a seed to germ. just stick with the paper towel on pc. what breaks open is what breaks open. biology is finicky and takes time.good luck

I know theres a big debate on germinating before planting but ive never had a problem before now. The one that sprouted has a green stem but the nuts leaves are yellow. Is there a reliable way to get good quality seeds for a souvenir of sorts in a state that's not legal?

it can take upto 10 days. My last seeds didnt full sprout untill day 6. Are there any cracks or opening at all in the seed? Make sure the ones in paper towel get atleast a little bit of light. Personally on the window still with the window open now and then works well for me. And someone mentioned something peroxide? LOL. maybe that works, but let them do it as naturally as possible

AFAIK Seed banks don't really care what state you live in, and even if they get nabbed by customs it's not like they follow up and come after you, they just take the beans and go about their day, and you wait for the re-shipment.

That's true, but with a little coaxing you can sometimes get stubborn seeds to pop that you thought were infertile. I just popped some 6-7 year old GDP seeds that I was given before I grew and thought had gone down for the long goodnight, after a little scarification and hydrogen peroxide they popped open like I had just pulled them from a bud.

good point. i've used scarification on more than just mj seeds but never heard of using hydrogen peroxide to coax a seed.he's just so new with a bunch of seeds.but please go ahead and detail or link to good descriptions of the procedures.

I don't have any links to procedures but I can detail what my procedure is. I put the seeds and a small piece of sandpaper in a medicine bottle, shake it gently for about 15 seconds, then put the seeds in between two cotton makeup removal pads, put the pads into a ziplock baggie with 1 part hydrogen peroxide 4 parts water, make sure there is extra air in the baggie when i seal it, and then put the baggie somewhere warm, and I check it 48 hours later, then every 24 hours after that if anything remains unpopped after the first 48. Once they are popped I delicately place them into either a peat pellet or into a small pot of seedling mix, and toss them on the windowsill if they are gonna go outside or under the lamp if they are going to stay indoors.

AFAIK? Ill try your guys methods' I really appreciate the input

Did you store that jar of seeds in the refrigerator or in a dry cool location? In a warm humid environment those seeds will go bad.

In a pill bottle on the dresser, I dumped about 60 seeds in a papertowel. I'm about to give up, I can manage a plant but its damn hard getting them to pop.

Hi mate this what I do and it works for me

1: drop seeds in warm water put a lid on it to keep it warm but not hot! come back in a hour or two tap them so they sink to the bottom of the cup wait 24 hours

2: At the sae time you place your seeds in water PH 5.5 some destilled water and soak some Rockwool cubes

3: 24 hours have passed and you should be able to see the roots start to show

Drain water from cup use tweezers to pick them out with out damaging the root place in rockwool root down rip some rockwool off the side of the cube and place over the top to keep the light off the seed and the root

Make sure the cube is not to wet so just give it a little squeeze place in a dome

And in a day or two you should be good to go well it works every time for me so hope it helps

Some people will paper towel them after the soak but I don't think it helps

Some take longer so make sure you give it a week before throwing in the flag good luck
