Flowering is controlled by the length of darkness so at 12/12 with the 730 the plant thinks it's at 14 hours of darkness right from the start which speeds the onset of flower, you've heard of people going to 10/14 at the end of flower to push the plant to finish strong.
Do you think I should just keep it at 12/12 then? I've been reading some conflicting info I think...what do you do? I understand that the dark period's length controls the flowering, but I was under the impression that I could speed flowering by having more than 12 hours of daylight with the far reds.

It's a added benefit to get a slightly shorter flower time but I don't think that's the most important thing. By pushing the plant harder into flower and finishing stronger at 12/12 to start and finish which seems to take time off the total flower time. The most important part is the extra energy the plant can take in. At 13.5/10.5 during the middle of flower with 730 nm the plant still thinks it's getting 12.5 hours of dark which pushes the plant but also is taking in 13.5 hours of light, extra yield is what this is about.

Ah, now I got it. Thanks for clearing things up for me:)

Hadn't really thought about it before but this could also speed growth in veg.
yeah man, I was actually just thinking about this too. I'll try it out on the next run. I wonder if the 5000K and the 4000K all day can combat the stretch....

I just assumed that stretch was part of the price you pay for all the added energy your putting into the plant growth. Your pushing the plant during the stretch phase so you get more stretch,I suppose you could start flower at 14/10 with 730 nm but what would be the point. Maybe some one should try it,it may lengthen flower but that would also give the plant more time to grow.

I will roll 11/13 if trichromes are slow to amber on a sativa any day but always started 12/12,w/o the 730 how fast to pistils typically in your garden?

I only have one cut that I know the difference for sure. My Critical Kush takes at least 3 to 4 more days to show pistils without 730 nm.

shit mine have been on 14/10 and I thought it was 13.5 /10.5. I was wondering why they looked like a week behind than they are. I need to get those digital timers that you recommended Cap.
I've been looking for a good timer...was going to go with something from Greeners but it seems a tad expensive...
