A young black man and his girlfriend walk into a Wal Mart to buy ingredients for a dessert dish for a family gathering. Somewhere along the way (inside the store), the man picks up an air rifle. Someone sees him walking around with an air rifle, gets scared, calls the police, and the police come and shoot the man dead. That's the short version of the story, with all relevant facts (as far as I can tell).
Then the cops aggressively interrogate his girlfriend, try to intimidate her, threaten her with jail time, trying to get her to say that her boyfriend brought the gun into the store. She refuses to cave in, but is in obvious distress (during her long interrogation). Only then does the asshole interrogator tell her that her boyfriend is dead.
The shooter (cop) is not disciplined in any manner. The DA says the incident was a "perfect storm with no bad guys".
