tricomb production and purpleing

v.s one

Well-Known Member
I was smoking with my buddies hippie uncle the other day and I commented on the smoke not tasting like it had a proper flush. He starts to tell me how he flushes the last two weeks but the last three days he uses ice cold water . I ask him why? He says he sees an increase in trics and coloring. If anyone has experimented with this I would like to know before I try it out.

yes it will give you a purple tinge but the trichs are probably just a result of the plant reaching maturity and peaking in trichome production around the same time as hes doing that.

Itll work better if 2 weeks out you reduce the water temps to say 50 degrees or so instead of ice cold that way you dont shock it too bad, oh yeah this method will give you purps andalso sliggtly diminish your yield so bear that in mind

With all due respect to your buddie's uncle, I fail to see how cold water increases resin production. Perhaps it causes some purple colors to show themselves, but that's a natural response to cold temps. There are preventative things we do to keep plants healthy and bring out their full potential, but there are no ways to coax extra thc production beyond it's genetic limitations.

Consider this: If it were true, then why would it matter if you did it the last two weeks of flowering? Why not get things jump started and do it in the first two weeks? Because if you did, you'd end up with a necrotic stick by week 8. Test it on two identical clones, give one water warm enough to swim in, and the other the cold bath, see which one fairs out better.

Again, I'm certainly not trying to argue or be sarcastic, just my thoughts.

Ok what about putting plants into darkness 24-48 hours before harvest.to increase tricombs?
