controversy surrounding Northern Lights?

The origins of NL are shrouded in mystery. The story told by seedsman and others reads like a pure mythology. Some foggy island in BC, a grower named "the indian" all highly suspect. Yet NL has one of the most recognizable names in Cannabis market.

Now that I things are going legit, I'm trying to figure out what strain will be best for outdoor production at a larger scale. I'm thinking a lot about Northern lights. Supposedly it originates in my area, Pacific North West. Has good yields, lends itself well to moist environments. That said. I was hoping the RIU community might have some insight on how well NL preforms outdoor, which breeder has the best NL genetics. Or if growing it is even a good idea. Hopefully this thread will grow into a conversation about NL. Thanks!

Northern Lights is known as one of the easiest growing strains there is. Big Bud is also popular (or was) among commercial growers, for it's high yield. But it's potency is nothing to brag about.

I've grown a Bodhi NL5 (the one with BCSC NL5) once and it was very leafy, trimming was a pain. I may have fucked it up with the nutes but i'm not sure if i grow them again.

BCSC has the best reputation for NL #5 at this point. Someone here got some of their seeds and they were duds, so....

Peak seeds also and Bodhi. I got some Classic Seeds NL but he is out right now and it will be a long time before a refill.

Sensi has a varied rep on seeds at this point but they had the real deal at one point.

The back story on NL is supposed to be that a few growers in Washington bred it and were trying to help the 'indian' and gave him some seeds for him to grow. The Dutch guys went to the Indian to get some NL so as to bypass the original breeders. The real breeders did not want attention and that is why the mystery around it. Far from legal back then.

I recently grew out 5 PeakseedsBC Northern Lights females and I gotta say it was the exact same for me. TOTAL bitch to trim, but the effects of the herb itself are well worth it. Not exactly excited to grow it again though for the trimming factor. heck would be great to just run some whole plants for ice hash though. :)

I'm terrible at describing the effects. All I can say is I get nice and high. It does the job well. :bigjoint:

Out of the 5 plants I got some cheese smelling phenos and some almost lemony but not quite lemon but sweet subtle citrus smelling.

I wouldn't grow it outside in a damp climate, it was specifically made for indoors. The closest you'll get is Ortega from Mr.Nice.I believe its nl2 x nl5.
