would 2 1,000 watt hps in a raptor 8 dual hood be overkill for 4 plants?? i wanna run two flower bays and was thinking 4 plants in each but not sure if i should go with 2 600 hps or 1,000 hps... the bays will be just a little bit bigger then the hood itself so maybe 3'x4'

I think you'd do well with just the single 1000w for now. Definitely chose the 1000 over the 600 though for much better light penetration.

and also why do i see web sites that are selling say hoods or ballast for like 100 bucks cheaper then you would pay from hydrofarm and others??? is there something wrong with it? is it used equip or can they really afford to sell a raptor hood for 150 when it cost 250?? maybe you know some good placea to order from that has those prices??

see thats what i wanted to do at first... 2 600s in a raptor 8 dual bulb hood....but then someone said just do 2 1,000s and now i dont know what to do lol im thinking ill do a 1,000 and a 600 in the dual hood.... what do you think about that mr pwesadint

Unless you have the headroom to back the 1kw lamps off they can actually be detrimental to plants and photosynthesis.

Good point and then you run into the issue of which is putting out more light at the plant level: a 1000W light further away or the 600W light that's closer. In Marijuana Horticulture, Cervantes seems to prefer 2-600W lights over a single 1000W and 3-600W lights over
2-1000W lights. I have not experimented myself so I can't speak about personal experiences.

1kw lamps can be too intense. You can get a bigger footprint with a 1kw IF you have the headroom because you have to back the lamp off but as far as efficiently running lights 600 watt lamps are far better than 1kw.

I would start with the question: how much money do you have to spend and where is your room going to be located?
In your house? A rental? In the basement?

Growing weed (great weed) is all about climate control. Period, end of story there are plenty of strains that a neeb can grow that are quite easy if you simply have a pH and ppm meter.

People fuck around and spend sooooo much time and money trying to heat or cool their room with fans and ducting and timers and heaters and all manner of stuff.

If your serious about growing weed then you should be investing in a decent mini split.

A 24,000 but split will easy cool 5-6k watts plus dehu, ballasts or co2 burner. Then your climate control is ridiculously easy... set it and walk away. You will also be set up to use co2 when you have the cash ($500) and your smell will be easier to contain

No temperature swings, no freezing nights with stretching plants, no baked budds, and free dehu.

2k investmentioned will pay big dividends BIG

great points!! and i wanna get serious now ya know... i had a taste and had a good little grow with 6 plants and 1 600 but now i wanna do less plants but upgraded room and hopefully get more out of them like that..... every two months.... now is sealed room the best way to go?? and ar first i was thinking 1,000 as for investment but i could figure things out and maybe have a little more i do wanna stick with 600 hps ... just instead of 1 over 6 i will have 2 over 4 with 2 bays for bloom

your talking at least 60+ oz from 2kw
across 4 plants thats like 1lb per plant
if you intend to get them this size go for it, otherwise its a waste of electricity
