letting water sit in pot saucers

watering my plants is a real bitch of a job they are quite large standing at about 1.0 to 1.3 meters tall and are tied down to bamboo stakes. they are in plastic 16.9 litre planter bags. i usually have to water them every 48 hours. as it is fucking hot in my grow room with 2200 watts beating down on them and little to no proper ventilation set up.

now i usually feed them about 4-5 liters and get quite a bit of run off from this. the saucers which my plants sit in usually get full to the brim and emptying them in a bitch because the planter bags are so heavy having just been watered and i have to move plants around so that i can pick them up and move them without damaging them or other plants. it's just such a hassle. so i tend to just leave the water in there. not sure exactly how long it takes to be absorbed by the plant but i would say no longer then maybe 6 hours. could be half of that. i haven't kept track (which i should).

anyway i was wandering if this is bad for my plants. it does get very hot and they do seem to drink it up pretty quickly even with a good watering. just wandering if other people also just leave it like i do. or what are some possible consequences from leaving it besides over watering which doesn't seem to have been an issue and the plants show on signs of it. cheers :)

I left water standing in my saucers for the same reason this time for the first time because of the same reason, too heavy and too bushy to move without damaging them. This is also the first year I got a fungus gnat infestation. May or may not be directly related. Now when I water I just get the shop vac an hour after I water them and all done. Also clean the tent of any leaves that may have dropped. Good luck.

I think it's like drinking toilet water
use a wet dry vacuum cleaner to suck water out of the saucers

mate i am dropping leaves for Africa. im 1 week and 5 days from harvest so it's to be expected i guess. however some of the plants are not even yellow let and some are yellow as a China man. im hoping it is just part of the natural cycle and isn't deficiencies. hard to tell because this is my first grow so i have nothing to refer to in terms of past experiences. im not underfeeding them in fact i may have overfeed a couple of them slightly, but not to bad. could be a lock out of some sort. haven't paid much attention to PH. although got a PH kit yesterday and my water is at a good PH. buds are looking good and are growing and getting very white. just hoping for a lot more growth in the next 2 weeks because right now it's pretty good especially for a first grow filled with mistakes along the way buuuuut. should be bigger seeing as i specifically purchased afgooey because of the claim of 1000grams psqm. however after going through green house seeds cataloge i noticed all their plants have claims in this range and is probably quite the exaggeration :P

For the OP:
Much cheaper and easier than a Wet or Dry Vac, just use a Turkey Baster. That's what I use. I don't know how you would get a vacuum nozzle down into your drainage saucer; unless you have lots more space there than I do. Anyway, a Turkey Baster comes to a tapered point about 1/4" in diameter - perfect size and shape.

EDIT: Two bucks at Wal-Mart, I just Googled it!
