well i'm growing in an upstairs walkin closet. the room itself doesn't have any real odor but the bathroom that is directly below it smells horrible (and before any comments are made it doesn't smell like shit it smells like weed). now i cann't figure out why. the vent doesn't run into the closet or anything so i don't see how the odor is getting in there. Even my bedroom where the closet is doesn't smell. I am completely stumped and not sure what to do. if anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated seeing how the bathroon isright infront of my front door so anyone coming over is hit by the smell as soon as they walk in the door. I used air fresheners in the batthroom but that doesn't seem to be enough. Thanks in advance for any help.

If i where you and you already have a fan i'd buy a carbon filter, or you could look in the faq for a cheap diy option. Not sure how the smell has got in your bathroom though!

There might be a hole or crack in the floor or along the wall and floor. Just putting ideas out there. And there is a lot of products out there that deodorize bathrooms.

Yer there could be, but shouldn't the smell rise if anything not drop? I dunno maybe i'm wrong there.

No because there would more than likely be a breeze going through the hole or crack. I know what your talking about though, the whole hot air rises and cool air falls. But it's a smell...

there is an exhaust fan in the bathroom but it doesn't run into the closet. I do have a fan going in the closet to circulate the air and i just open the door every so often to ventilate the closet. would a carbon filter work without having any kind of exterior ventilation. something that I could put in the closet but not exhaust it out of the room.

the most baffling part of it is that the closet itself doesn't have that strong of an odor nor does my bedroom. its fn wierd.

Depends what sort of fan you have, i have a bathroom extractor fan with ducting to my 4 inch carbon filter, but the fan is a bit load has to be said. Didn't set me bak as much as i thought it would, now i don't even worry about odour it's a thing of the past.

so u can just circulate the air in the room through a carbon filter and not cause any harm to the plants?

Yep you should be able to after all that's what carbon filters are made for. Just have to make sure you have the right air flow though the carbon filter in order for it to work.

If there are holes in the wall (ie, plug ins) the negative/positive pressure inside the house could be pushing air, and smells, through the walls into your bathroom. My grow room is in the basement of my house, and respectively has no smell inside, but going up the stairs to the upper part of the house is where I smell it most. In a hallway about 30 feet from the actual plants.

Could it be that cold air is pushing the smell to the floor, and drafting it downstairs?

the only thing i could think of is when they put the bathroom fan in ( i rent a town house and it looks like it was a self instalation from a previous tenant) they didn't really exhaust it anywhere it just goes into the ceiling and like thc ocean said the heat and air movment could be creating s pressurized environment in my grow room causing the smell to leak out through gaps or cracks in the floor and into the bathroom

i got a carbon filter and run it unvented so it is just recirculating the grow room air. it completely eliminates odor while running 1/2 time
