Do I need to wait for the nodes to alternate or until I see actual pre-flowers?
I cannot find the answer anywhere (I usually use just the regular beans).

Wait for what? Fem seeds are fems...that doesn't mean they won't herm on you so keep your eye on them
But you don't have to wait for alternating nodes or preflowers
