Hydroponics VS Soil (plz read)

I have both going right now ebb n flow and fox farm ocean forest outside. Soil in containers is a lot less hassle...sort of. The only thing that gets on my nervs is having to drag my ass outside every morning before work to water them. I like the hydro because it is hands free...more of the time. I mean there is the res change once a week, but I only have to add water twice a week and check the ph 3 times. Outdoors I have to worry about the bugs, the mildew, the mold, and animals, and wind. I would say the biggest reason to go with soil is like dangly said...is that you use so much less nutes. And when you have expensive ass advanced nutes...saving them is great. I've never done a side by side grow like this so I am really excited to find out how the 2 will compare.

so your going off what others have told you and not by experience?? i have grown many and many and many harvest in both, and for me based on my experience hydro is the only way... and a hell of alot easier to MEASURE the nutes, and flush if necessary and readjust...

Whenever any grower is feeding they need to be able to measure what they are feeding, your choice in medium will undoubtably come from your own personal experience... the key words (personal experience), dont take what anyone here has to say as gospel... get out there and grow whatever you chose you will enjoy...

im really not going by experience and what other people are saying im goin by whats common sense that ull have to do with matinence and work in hydroponics u would have to buy a ppm meter a es meter i think it check it constantly so that ur nutes are perfect and ur ph cause since it constantly feeding it with that water it could fuk up so fast as is to soil u can water them let them take up as much nutes as they can and see what happens usually u can tell from the first or 2nd watering than u can fix easly from there but the hydro is good because u will always have the right nutes ph and ppm ALWAYS so the plant will grow better and more health but in the end i dont think hydro and soil have anything different in potentcy from what i looked up maybe yield but not potentcy

I like soil-grown taste the best, so that's what I use. I occasionally trade some of my stuff for some hydro-grown stuff, and I've always preferred mine. Others, by and large, who have gotten to compare, say the same thing. Another big practical factor for me is, I have no running water anywhere near the plants, so a reservoir change would be quite a chore for me, if I wanted to grow hydro or aero. I use an EZ-Cloner (aero) for clones, and just dealing with that one reservoir is hassle enough for me (but at least I only have to mess with that every month or two).

I had a friend start growing with hydro the same time I started with soil. He had big dreams. His first crop, a tube broke while he was at work, flooded his room, his plants all died. His next try, something went wrong with his nutrient levels, all the plants died again. He finally got a crop done on his third try, but by then I was stuffed with soil-grown buds. I gave him some to cheer him up. He frets over his meters all the time now. Me, I haven't even used my ph meter in two years, only used it once ever, and wish I had that money back. My friend's thinking about trying soil now, although he's got the hydro thing down, finally. He likes the taste of mine better too.

Whatever gets you the bud that makes you the happiest, that's what's best for you, whether it's soil, hydro, aero, or something else. I'm very happy with soil, personally, but it's probably not for everyone.

co2 if not used properly can diminish yields aswell, not to mention your wallet if your not venting the room correctly in coalition to the co2 dispercment. have 3 dogs a gf and her bro staying in your house....CO2 prob solved.

All of this absolute stuff isnt really belivable. Until I grow the same plants side by side in hydro and dirt im not going to say which one tastes better. Did you know you can do completely organic aero? What about agro-ponic soiless growing with light warrior.

One thing is for sure, putting yeast in a bucket does not increase yeild 30%. Weed can only breath so hard, and unless you completely max out your light and nute regiminen adding CO2 wont do anything. Its def a later step, one done after lights/medium/nutes are all in perfect balence. Im not against c02, its just it ticks me off when ppl say +20% yeild, unless you go from complete fuckup to perfect there isnt alot that will increase harvests by 1/5.

You a beginner, choose soil, there is less a need for pure water, tons of nutes to learn to use, monitering res temps ect. Grow in 3-5 gal buckets under HID light (thats the first investment) things will be great.

Thats not to say you cant grow faster/bigger/smarter. But do those things when you know how plants react. Dont start them on nutes so you know what a deficiency looks like. Get some experience before jumping off to a more difficult growing adventure. Weed first science later

very good post!!!! beginners should certainly start with soil, and don't even think of co2 until you can control and measure it, don't get over zealous with the nutes, many do and wala!-burn..... great all around advice!!!!!!!!!!

Heres some hydro-organic(not all organic...base is syn.) Sweet Nightmare...looks dam tasty to me! The mother plant is outside waiting for the days to shorten...then I'll know how they compare. The aroma is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!

It was an incredible happenstance...They are from a humbolt connection....the sweet nightmare is supposed to be hard to find...I've had several people ask to be sent clipings and/or seed....I can't help em out though.

I can only go by personal experience and after years of growing in both i much prefer hydro.. but i do have friends that grow in soil exclusively and they have many years of experience with hydro??? so it's just personal preference i believe.

I think a good grower will reach maximum potency in that persons preference... i prefer a co2 enriched atmosphere (controlled & measured) using both aero/hydro systems...

Using co2 really boosted the potency of my plants, not so much in yield tho, still roughly 2-1/2 - 3 ounces/plant dried.

Did it make the plants get really big.....I've got a co2 set-up that I couldn't use this go-around because of my temps. That'll be worked out by next crop, but I still have height/space limits...and I've been reading that co2 makes them grow a lot.

i only use the co2 during bloom (some use it through out and some say its only good for this stage or that stage yada yada yada ), i will say that the biggest result is the crystals, my crystal easily doubles... the size of the plant itself probably grows an additional 10% from the co2.. it will grow even more if u use it during veg (the reason i dont use it during that stage).. i like using it during bloom for the crystal increase...

but i warn ya, keep a very very very close eye on it, make sure your not exceeding 1200 ppm, 1 hour after lights on and shut down 1 hour prior to lights out... you'll love the results if done correctly.. get a co2 monitor if u dont already have 1.. if ya have 1, check it every 3 hours for the 1st week or so just so you can get the settings correct.. 1200 ppm is what your looking for
