I am a man.

Fired my first real weapon today. And then I fired another.

Mossburg 835 Ultimag pump action. Didn't even know the fuckers were legal here. Learned to 'combat load' and everything.

Next up was a mid 60's vintage side-by-side, lighter, prettier and waaay kickier. Actually faster to fire off 2 shots than the pump.

I feel almost 'Merican. Fuck yeah!

Sadly not mine, but the owner's happy to show me the ropes. It's a nice little thing, cut down to 54', which is called a 'Churchill' as that was Winston's preference. Or so I'm told...
Someone cut down the barrels on a side by side shotgun ?

Only few inches. Corrosion in one of the barrels was screwing up an otherwise lovely gun apparently.

It wasn't for the Guy Ritchie effect... :D
That really devalued it; hope it wasn't one of those custom Brit one's like a Purdey or H&H

Wow !
Honestly, chopping off the end of a fixed choke shotgun (particularly a double) is a hack move. Removing the muzzle end of a shot gun barrel effectively ruin's the gun's ability to regulate the shot, not to mention any resale value.

In other words, the last several inches internally "restrict" the shot allowing for varying degree's of delay while the shot patter opens up. Kind of like a funnel on a slight scale - removing the "funnel" effectively give you two barrels with a "cylinder bore" and allows the shot charge to open up immediately upon exiting the muzzle meaning at hunting distances beyond "Rightfuckinginfrontofyou" the damn thing is nigh useless.

Of the several side by side's I own typically the right barrel is "Cylinder" while the left is "Improved" allowing one to use the right for the "Flush" and the left for the follow up "Going away" shot. Again, regulation is all about what the guns is designed

Additionally the open joints between the center ribs and the barrels is now open to the elements and will corrode.

I know it's not your doing, just a bit of needless arms info.

Here's a chart showing degree's of choke just because it looks important.

You know, some of that was relayed to me by the hacker at the time, only with less detail. Apparently the left was really grotty at the end and wasn't really properly usable as it was.
If it was a valuable gun it would have no doubt had better treatment.

I quite liked the Mossburg. For the extra weight. First cartridges I fired were 28's low brass (I might be showing my ignorance and poor memory here?) should be good for taking out hamsters or similar. The 56 half mags actually felt like they had some punch to them. They made a hell of a mess of the 2 inch thick hardboard target. And the exit wound..... o_O

Eye opening for somebody who's last heft of a 'firearm' was a .177 air rifle!
