Help me make edibles!

Okay Im in need of some assistance. now that my 4 plants are done ive been wanting to make edibles.

I recently tried 2 different runs of making butter that i believe both failed. I have a very high tolerance, but my roommate is a 1 hitter quiter. and I gave him a bunch of cookies to eat with no effects, so i know it was a waste.

1st run - 1/4oz butter to 10gs trim(about a week old ). simmered in pot with butter and small amount of water. warmed for about an hour, strained and cooled. Made cookies... no luck there.

2nd run - 40gs dried trim, 1lb butter. Decarbed trim @ 220 for 20mins. let door open on oven for 10min cool down. Simmered butter and trim w/ small amount of water in CROCKPOT for 4hrs. Strained, cooled. Tried cookies again... no luck. Butter had a nice slight weed smell and then was totally gone once i made the cookies.

So im in need of some help. Im not sure why im not getting anything from this, and i know they arent giving any effect as my roommate reports he felt nothing from them.

So im looking to try once again.... butter or oil is what im torn on now. When it comes to cooking i have no problem doing that, but when it comes to cookies/brownies/cakes stuff, im more of the premade box type isntead of making from scatch. Alot of premades call of oil, so im thinking about trying oil this time, unless anyone has any good input on butter making.

Any input, links to recipes, info on what im doing wrong, would be a great help! I have about 4oz of bud from my plants, 1 of them i think i cut a bit to early so im willing to turn that one into edibles, if they work. I can try and smaller run first before making any bigger batches.

Any info would be a great help! Butter or oil recipes, but i think i may try oil this time.

Decarb your weed at 140F, bake till over dry. At 140F you can't over do it.

I've made budder and oil, pain in the ass IMO. Now I make ISO extract and use that to bake

ooooh how could i do the ISO?

Ive made ISO plenty of times with GREAT outcomes! Im just tired of doing the dabs thing. it kills my tolerance. but if i can make it that way and cook with it, Im 100% confident with making it that way as i know it works. the butter is just pissing me off and kinda mad i wasted 40g's of trim. but i do have about an oz or buds that arent great when smoked so im willing to convert to oil.

When i get iso my ending result is usually shatter or a somewhat pliable wax. How do i go about using that for cooking along with how to measure the amount needed? Do i need to then cut the wax with something to make it a liquid form? Im guessing i just heat up some oil or butter and then add the wax back in and heat until liquid/mixed then let cool?

Here's fumble's recipe for Caramel's - they are the shit & hella potent last time I made them.
mmk...here is the caramel recipe I use. It is Ina Garten's Fluer de Sel Caramels

1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup water
in a tall sided sauce pan cook above over medium high heat until a dark golden color. Add 1 cup heavy cream
5 Tablespoons canna butter
Be careful as this will bubble up violently, so pan needs to be tall or big enough.
Use a candy/deep fry thermometer and cook to 248f. remove from heat and when bubbling ceases, add 2 Tablespoons of good vanilla (original uses 1/2 tsp...up your flavors and spices to hide canna taste). Be careful again as steam will escape with the bubbles and burn you something terrible...also add 1 tsp of sea salt.

This is where you want to start mixing it very well. It may look like it isn't coming together, but just keep stirring until it is a beautiful golden consistency.

Have either an 8x8 square pan, with plastic wrap lining it then sprayed with no stick, or silicone molds (these are awesome) prepared and ready. If you don't have a candy funnel, pour carefully into the pan or molds and let sit intil firm...a couple of hours.

***If you want to add extra hash oil, you would do it at the point where you add the vanilla and sea salt :)

Pretty much what you've guessed.
I generally use 4g or more for a 8x8 pan of brownies (but my extract looks more like oil), you kinda have to go by guess for strength.
I mix the extract with butter and oil, then microwave it till it's hot so it's easier to mix.
Sometimes I add 151 Rum, makes for a nice flavour(:

thanks dude! how do you get your more oil consistency with your iso? ive always read that any liquidy outcome still has water content. i do 20sec washes, then cook off on a pancake griddle with infrared temp gun keeping it at 120ish and then go until all liquid is gone as left with wax.

do i need to decarb before or just do it with the wax wen complete? ( i put scrappings into parch paper then put that on griddle in my pyrex and heat til liquid, then let that carb for about 20mins around 175.

Dissolve your ISO wax into butter or coconut oil in a glass container with a bit of heat. Once fully combined, cover the container with foil or similar and place into a warm oven ~250f. It will start to release lots of small bubbles. This is the co2 being released by the decarboxylation that is required to make edibles psychoactive. You want to use glass so that you can watch to product during the entire process. Once the bubbles slow considerably, the mixture is ready to use in whatever recipe you wish.

i agree about the oily ISO hash, id say it still has water in it
id also recommend switching to a food grade ethanol (everclear) which is much safer

don't do it in an oven, imo it is only necessary to use an oven for decarbing buds
try decarbing your oil like this old stoner does

basically heat your oil till the bubbles stop, reduce heat to about 160-180 then add in your coconut oil or butter and mix well, then add to recipe

Hey I had they same problem with a couple of my roomates not getting anything from the edibles I made no matter how strong I made them. I used to get so pissed and annoy cause everyone else I gave them to was getting fucked up. I finally found out it has to do with the rate they metabolize they edible. The high the metabolism rate the faster the THC get released into the system the faster the get stoned. But with people with low metabolism rate the THC get release slowly and which gives it a weakened affect. But anyway you make your extraction I highly recommend you decarboxylate the bud really helps with getting a strong extraction.

That seems odd. I currently make cookies that that make folks want take their pants off hand over their car keys. The methods I use have used in the past aren't all that different from your own.

I am admittedly a RIU noob BUT when making edibles I have had success with heating the coconut oil on the stovetop with ground buds then straining the oil. Let me know if you are interesting more specifics. Happy Monday!

I think it came down to premature chopping. my buds are done curing and have very little potency and smell. too fast of hang dry caused it as well. you live a learn tho but was still kinda of upset to have wasted all the trim but in the end it wasnt good trim.

I have a new 6gal under a scrog and 400w just starting to flower so about 2 more months and ill try some edibles again!

Have to look at "decarbonaziation of THC" to make good buttter - " Warble's" post shows the rate of decarbonization.+ temps - one MUST use correct temps. If using a crock pot cook on high for one hour and then low for 2hr - Keep temp at 180-200 degrees. really no need to cook all night like some folks do, not saying that is wrong I'm sure it's fine, but one can resuse your cook time
