Grow Tent Too Hot!!!

hey everyone ive been running into a few problems with my grow tent setup i currently have a 4x4x7.5 tent with 2 216 watt t-5s i have one swivel fan running but i have a 400 watt hps not on at all because it forces the room to temperatures of 95! My other problem is ventilation. My tent is sadly forced to preside in a plastic shed which cuts off circulation and makes the air surronding the tent very hot as well as inside the tent. I would really appreciate any ideas of how to fix ventilation and the heat. My only idea for ventilation is to run a duct through and outside the shed??? I really want to use my 400 watt again if possible
Thanx for any help!!!!!

If you go led I highly reccomend area51led. Very good and thy are growing some big dense buds. I returned my full spectrum LED lights, was told it was more of old technology. The white and red color spectrums like in the a51led are supposed to be what's on top right now.

Why don't you use a 6 or 8" in line Exaust fan and pull air from outside shed and blow it back out.

im pretty sure im gonna make the hole in the shed side tomorrow and run duct from outside to in the tent. hopefully it cools and gives the tent more ventilation

Link a picture of your HPS, can it be air cooled?

If it can that is what u will need to do. Make sure your tent has its bottom holes open as passive air intakes, if they are not large enough you may need a intake booster fan in addition to an exhaust fan. Buy a 6" centrifugal exhaust fan (i prefer vortex, very high quality) and put it either inside or outside your tent ducted to the sealed hood of the HPS. Then duct the other end of the HPS to your carbon filter if u are using one. Put the carbon filter, or the ducting intake in the top of the tent as far from the passive intakes as possible. Run the 6" fan atleast whenever the light is running (i run it 24/7 for smell control). The warm air from the tent is sucked out of the tent through the hood thus cooling the light and the tent at the same time. Also make sure u run a fan or 2 blowing under the hood to disperse the heat. This will only work if you can get 70 degree ai into the shed and heat out so some holes will have to be made in your shed and you should probably run the lights at night so that the ambient temps are lower. I have found no issue with my plants having 90 degree temps during their lights off time, though certain strains will not like it.

thank you so much for the help purple hays1 sadly my hps can not be air cooled because of the old style hood i am gonna try setting up the intake and exhaust. the intake coming from a hole through my shed and the exhaust going out the roof of my shed if this doesnt cool the tent down then i will have to look for another solution

Don't forget to filter the air coming in.

Ya thank you i wouldnt have thought about that sadly this is only my 3rd round i got 2 6inch vortex fans 435 cfm each and that seems to be cooling the tent down a bit sadly its socal so its hot all year i will be getting the filter today for the inline that is outside the tent and i am currently building the scrog net this is what i have so far though blue dream on the left madman og on the rightIMAG0039.jpg

I was considering the LED but due to the fact that the temps drop to the 50s at night id rather have the mh/hps for the heat plus and LED wouldnt save me from the outside temps during summer either way i will be running an ac or i will be outside
I'm battling these same issues and going to get an LED light. So I totally agree.

That sounds like a well thought out plan. Good luck on your grow.

That is just too much light for that tent. Take out the t5's, and use them for clones only. they are not needed and produce more heat than you think. If that 400 watt light isn't working for veg without the t5's , then it is just too old and burned out. What kind of ballast? How old is the 400 watt bulb?

Ok guys I appreaciate the input but remeber i am basically riding the temps out side and last night it hit 49 f so if i didnt have all that heat the plants would b goners also during the 2-3 hour span where it is too hot to run the 400 watt i just turn it off and leave the t-5s running and BAM!!! 70-80 temps

All of the equipment works i have never heard of 800 watts being too much for a 4x4 expecially when people run 1000 watts ez in here and about the ballast and the bulb well long story short I had a 600w hps with cool tube and dimmer wasnt growing for a while so lent it to my cousin up north then i ask for it back and he gives me his old shitty 400 watt mh/hps bulbs and that crappy ballast you guys see in the pics should see the setup required for that mother
