Rapid rooters

I have read that rapid rooters are one of the easiest ways to germinate seeds, especially since I will have a DWC setup and it should be very easy to place the rapid rooter in my hydroton filled net pot. I have also read that once the package for the rapid rooters is open after about a week or two they dry out and need to be thrown away. I see they sell them in 50 packs so I'm curious if people do anything to save them or if I do really have to throw away the other 40 if I only need 10 or so in the immediate future. I don't really mind the cost aspect of it I just hate to be wasteful. Thoughts?!

Foodsaver vacuum bags if you want to invest in them. Otherwise freezer bags, keep them in a cool dark place, throw them away if they smell or you see mold.

I used RRs for the first time today. The bag they came in is a zip lock. They were hung on a hanger at the hydro store, no refrigeration. Before reading this thread, I would have assumed all I had to do is zip the bag shut and put it up on the shelf.

The cardboard display piece is stapled to the bag. I can see taping over the staple holes so it doesn't air out. That's all I'm going to do.

I just rehydrate them as necessary. The bag keeps them moist enough, then a couple drops of water and drop a seed in there and in a few days it is popped.

Is there a certain way to place the seed in the rapid rooter?

Why does that dutch seed merchant color the seeds?

Just stick a pencil or similar down an inch, drop in the seed, pinch some material off from the bottom and lightly fill the hole.

No clue about colored seeds.
