If they are the best the Crown's got it's a slam dunk. Wtf is the fire guy gonna say when we already were told there were none? This whole thing is a farce and I'm all for a class action against HC and Harper for the money, hardship and anxiety their (admittedly) punitive mmpr has caused patients. Who cares if it's our tax dollars...I'd rather get a chunk of it instead of it going for $16 orange juice or some shit.
I agree Chris...this is starting to look extremely bad on the Gov. All their folks so far have been a joke as far as witnesses go.
A lawsuit seems in order on incompetence alone.
Absolutely outrageous how we have been treat as patients and Canadians.
For shit sake these folks seem to be experts in nothing related to MJ anyway.
Wow it's really quite minding boggling that this is their defense.

This is the Crown's best witness I think.
This guy could be dangerous...

So I read his little affidavit or whatever, 75% of it he is talking about ILLICIT grows, the little bit that does address actual licensed medical grows he goes on to say they should INFLATE whatever percentages because the numbers can't actually be determined (wtf?). This guy is as clueless as the rest, he's just better at hiding his stupidity because he's a professor or some shit and has some fancy graphs. Can't wait for Conroy to tear him apart!

I wonder what the statitics would show comparing how many fires are started by home gardens versus drunks sitting around a campfire. I bet one has way more burn victims than the other.
I also hear alot of people burn themselves cooking so maybe stoves should be illegal too.

Or falling asleep with a cigarette......they don't seem to be banning them....
Maybe they'll just ban fire.
Maybe we should ban Native Children.

LOON LAKE, Sask. - The volunteer fire chief in a Saskatchewan village says a neighbouring First Nation that lost two children in a house fire cancelled its firefighting contract with the community.

Larry Heon, who is also the mayor of Loon Lake, says he was sleeping when he got a 911 call automatically routed to him at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday about the blaze on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan reserve.

"But we didn't go," said Heon, who explained that the band has outstanding bills and last year sent the village a letter discontinuing the service.

Officials with the band said they were surprised to hear what Heon said and believed Loon Lake firefighters would respond to any blaze on the reserve.

RCMP said they were the only first-responders who showed up at the house fire.

They say a two-year-old boy and an 18-month-old girl were at home with their grandmother and, when officers arrived, the children's father was carrying them out of the fully engulfed building.

The kids were pronounced dead at the scene. The grandmother was treated in hospital and released.

Chief Richard Ben said he is a friend of the father of the two children, Harley and Haley Cheenanow, and visited the man and his wife after hearing about what happened.

Ben said he wasn't aware the reserve's firefighting contract was no longer valid.

"We've always had it. This is news to me."

Kurt Schultz, the band's finance director, said he also believed the contract was still in effect, but couldn't recall firefighters being on the reserve since a fire there last winter.

He said there was a dispute in the past about how much the band owed the village for firefighting costs. The First Nation was billed $5,000 for annual retainer fees and then more for each fire the crew attended.

"That may have been part of the problem," said Schultz, who added that someone else with the band could have cancelled the contract, but he wasn't told.

He also wondered whether confusion over the fire service contract will become an election issue. About 1,000 people on the reserve are to vote Monday for a chief and council.

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada did not respond to a request for comment.

The department has said that it provides $26 million annually to reserves for fire protection services. However, it is up to each band council to decide how they spend the money.

A recent access-to-information request by The Canadian Press shows Makwa Sahgaiehcan was given just over $11,000 for fire protection in each of the 2012-13 and 2013-14 fiscal years.

Heon said he wasn't aware anyone had died in the fire Tuesday. When told two children had been killed, the fire chief paused.

He said there's no guarantee the volunteer fire department would have made any difference by the time its four members woke, geared up and travelled more than 10 kilometres to the scene.

"It's very sad because we've been told the government gives reserves money for fire support," he said.

"Hopefully this will get them on board and they'll get their fire suppression back in place."
What a Goof.
PS I was being sarcastic on Banning the Native children for anyone who does not realize. This is truly a sad story.

"For example, he said licensees growing in their homes could be forced to buy $3,000 “bloom boxes,” which encase the crop and protect it from fire, electrical safety risks, humidity and odour." JC

they are hell bent on those boxes
I could not fill my prescription with one of those boxes. I also don't have 3300 bucks. I hope conroy has more of an angle than to make us use those things. court has been awesome for us otherwise though.

Hmm seriously it can't be a coincidence that BCNL went public and then Remo was pumping them on the stand. I've dealt with BCNL and they seems like pretty good company and the boxes are quite nice but no way can someone who is in pain or unable to get down to ground level work in them besides you can't produce enough in them.

Well I wont blame him for wanting to make money I don't think he ever preached that about not making money from weed and then turning around and selling out.

Because medically fragile, financially vulnerable patients can totally afford a $3 k grow cab.

I wouldn't worry about those boxes...they are very limited in how much they can produce and there are more people with big scripts that it wouldn't accommodate. In thinking about it more, maybe the point was to say there are safe ways to grow small amounts. It's almost laying the groundwork for legalization....the box will grow 6-9 plants....sounds like next week the hammer will come down with all the important foreign experts....this is where it will get interesting...I believe I read somewhere that Israel thinks 1-3g/day should be more than enough for all patients....
