FIMING at node 3...is this a good idea for outdoors

Fimming or topping, whatever... I say just top it. Don't be greedy and try to get that extra shoot, especially on your main. It doesn't matter where you top. General consensus here is top at the 5th node.Top as many times as you like until flower.

Good question.. You can just top the crap out of them anytime you feel like it.
You just want the plant to recover and begin growing again brfore the next topping.. From each node where you topped it will grow two new shoots. Let them grow long enough to where you have a new node above which you can top,,

I think you should mainline the plant. It teaches a grower a lot about topping and training. It's pretty easy once you have done it.

You top at the fifth node. then two new shoots will grow up. You will have two major shoots below this top so now you have 4 shoots. Tie these down in North South East West positions. Remove any other shoots you just want 4 for now.

Once those grow a little then you top each of the 4 which will give you 8 total shoots. Tie these down and remove any other shoots. You just want 8. Then just let it grow normally keeping your 8 major shoots trained.

(Note that i stripped off all of the vegetation for this process.)

Then it grows into this

Alternatively you could wait until the plant has 4-5 nodes and just tie the main to the side of the pot.. Then when the lower shoots take over the vertical growth just top them once or twice. This will create a bush..

This is a decent video on mainlining.. Ultimately you would be doing it in stages as the plant grows.. They just had to do it on a more developed plant for demonstration purposes. Forget what he says about the supercropping. Just use the two lower shoots as part of the 4. Tie down all 4 shoots. Then top again for 8 total shoots.

Sure, why not? Just make 8 for outdoors. That's what I read..

Or just top at the 3rd 4th or 5th node... I'd say 5th node so that you get the two nice big side branches down below it which normally turn into nice colas.

Don't be afraid to experiment. It's weed. It'll grow. The more you top the bushier it will be.

As you go you can strip the leaves and other shoots.. You don't really have to, but it's how the pros do it.

I just chopped a plant that was mainlined.. I definitely recommend using the two lower shoots as part of your mainline. Saves time and these shoots pack on weight.

I was confussed till I read....but I saved these two lowers...and u recommend with those 2 staying on...this is great info I really do like this site a lot and how long u been growing
