the myth exposed

Interesting. I'd still like to see a test done with clones rather than seed. I'd also like to see a test done with the Big Bloom, Grow Big, & Tiger Bloom trio vs. MG. Isn't that Fox Farms most popular line? Might be a future project when I have the means and experience.

Good job. I use M.G. as well and have had zero problems with it. Plants seem to love it.

i agree i like to mkix my own organic soil but it gets pricey so when i need a fallback ill spend 15 bucks for 60qt bag of mg instead of 65 bucks for 60qt bag of ff

Only prob is MG isn't organic... I prefer to grow 100% organic in my vegetable, herb, and MJ gardens. I always figured FF's rep was a bit inflated. I DO know that MG isn't especially good fert, so I think the post really just shows you shouldn't buy into the hype of FF. Rather than convincing me to use Miracle Grow, you have shown me NOT to use Fox Farms. On the other hand, I've actually heard people say NEVER use MG because it will kill your plants and/or make them unsmokable as they will be toxic for human consumption. Anyone with a bit of a brain will realize that bs, since people use the stuff on their veggies. I still believe metanaturals or fish emuls will work better than MG, or better yet just make some real compost with plenty of wormies, but that's a different debate for a different time. Excellent study, +REP

the only problem my friends have with mg is that if you call the company and ask them "what is it they have in their nutes or why they used to have 30-15-30 and just recently they switched 24-8-16 b/c phosphorus cost to much now so they are tryin to switch their mix of nutes to compensate for being cheap?" (hopefully noone will notice!) the company has NO KNOWLEDGE of their own product! not just mg but all the other companies mg bought out too!
but... i've used mg aswell and it wasn't that bad sooooo.... :joint:
thx for your research & dedicating your time to clear this ff-mg debate up!:blsmoke::peace:

i just got done using MG moisture control and i worked great. no burn ever and the plants grew like 'weeds". i would def use it again but next time mix in some perlite or something to help drainage bc the soil gets really compact after a while.

i noticed that too it gets clumpy and heavy so i added perilite and it helped thats i guess in all fairness the one area that ff won my little grow off.

I'm probably going to sound like an ass but oh well.

I'm currently on my first grow. I'm growing three known strains (Morning Glory, Angel Dust, DPxSkunk#1) and two different types of bagseed (an indica and a sativa) and one of the first things I learned, and fast, is that different strains like different nutes, and nute levels. I can burn the shit out of one, and another will still want more nitrogen. Some don't respond well at all to chemical nutes, but blow up when I feed organics.

Miracle Grow (as far as I know) doesn't have any magical substance in it that other nutes don't have. It's got the three macro nutrients and some micronutrients, just like most other general purpose fertilizers. It just has them in different concentrations and ratios than any other fertilizer.

I think that you conclusively proved that Shiva Shanti responds better to Mircale Gro's specific nute concentrations, than it does to Fox Farm's. I just don't think it's fair to say that that carries over to every other strain.

I get splinters from MG. Seriously. Other than that, now that I've tried using it, Sta-Green, and now Gardner & Bloome, I'm sticking with Gardner & Bloome. Not because MG or SG are necessarily "bad", per se, but because they're just not as good. And I get hella splinters whenever I pot using MG and SG. They're a real bitch to dig out.

NO Myth for me. I tried MG and MG Organic both worked and produced ok weed for me. I will say MG regular did seem to kill a few clones of mine that I had in rockwool for a couple of weeks. The Organic never did this. However i had alot of gnat and ant problems from MG soils. I am a Fox Farm user and Ocean forrest, Light Warrior, And Happy Frog. I Prefer the Ocean Forrest the best over all. I did a side by side grow last year with some left over clones. I stuck a few in some left over MG soils I had. They did ok and produced good weed and a decent amount. I added nothing but water and Molasses to the MG, MG organic I did start some Big Bloom during flower and molasses. They had some nute problems that were resolved with the FF products. The Fox Farms Ocean Forrest with Big Bloom,Big Grow,Tiger Bloom, and molasses did excellent with no problems. There was a significant increase in yield over the others. The taste seemed a little better to me. My over all experience was much better with Fox Farm and would not use MG again unless that was all that was available to me.
This was ICE with 1000w.

However I will say I have seen some very, very impressive grows on here with MG products. Different experiences for everyone on here.

Two verry good points indeed by angus and im the medic however i only wanted to show that ff aint worth the hype and mg dose not deserve its bad rap 2 yrs ago i grew only in mg with many diff strains some were more sensitive to the nute ratios but all grew out of it and thrived.I have also had some bags with gnat issues and found if you let them get really dry inbetween waterings they dissapate

Even tho I was advised not to use MG, I went and bought MG all purpose, and vegged my plants for a bit over 2 months. My babes are doing just fine. they were lush, green and grew like weeds (He he). I agree whole heartedly that miracle grow is bad. But in most all legends, there is a kernel of truth. I wonder when, where and why it got it's bad rap?

I just bought MG quick start planting & transplant starting solution to feed for flowering. (4-12-4) I figure it's gotta be ok, it's high in phosphorus.:weed:

I think it's because it's pre-fertilized, and it's easy for people to forget that and burn their plants. My biggest issue, like I said, are the splinters. I prefer the soil to actually be soil.
