Platinum LED

Any info on this company? Anyone use these fixtures?
Platinum is a name-rip off of AdvancedLED. They use the name Advanced, and the same images Advanced uses. It's obvious they're trying to ride on Advanced's reputation.

The last time I looked, Platinum didn't disclose the diodes they use. I would expect them to be epi-whatever.

I wouldn't buy a light that doesn't disclose the diodes they use. And, I definitely wouldn't patronize a company that has to stoop to deceptive practices like ripping off a reputable company's name.

They say made in usa with bridgelux.
They say:

Platinum Series LED Lights use only top quality 3w high output LEDs from makers such as US made Bridgelux and Epistar
-- http://platinumgrowlights.com/faq
That's exactly the kind of double talk you'd expect from a business that engages in deceptive practices like ripping off AdvancedLED's name and image.

I'm not sure why anyone would debate this point. If you want an epi-whatever light, go with VIPAR(ebay) or MarsHydro and save some money.

Yep, they go in this heap with the other generics, awesome...at selling generic LEDs at a high markup, $9.45/PAR W by my estimate.

RapidLED Onyx (Cree XML2): $7.14/PAR W
Optic Lighting 200W (Vero 29): $7.21/PAR W
Optic Lighting 360W (Vero 29): $6/PAR W

(Pic stolen from Cammie, I love these)

I was looking over pled offerings. I read through a thread on 420mag and was turned off by the sales guy from pled. That led to vero optic. I purchased vero optic 29, 360, 4k. Expect delivery next week.

How does the calculation work to arrive at cost per par watt.

I plan on journaling my experience with this lamp. I cant find any documented grows using the vero optic 29, 360. Im interested inany pointers, observations, thoughts etc.

Many thanks

Weeeeeell.... I hardly thought my first post would be an admission of naivety but as it stands presently, I am an owner of a platinum fixture. Overloaded with conflicting advice and analysis of the brands available I purchased this brand in haste. Allow me to digress-- the last time I grew anything was about 10 years ago with a 150w mh/ hps, dwc. I was successful albeit the grows were small but respectable. Fast forward to the present, I want to pursue some experiments I have thought about for a long time :)

I've been running the pled 450 now for a couple weeks on 4, one month old seedlings- 2 Wonder Woman, 2 misc freebies. All in 5gal coco/perlite/leaf&coffee compost blend. Perhaps it good lighting, perhaps it's good genetics, or perhaps the good Lord has just graced me this time, but my babies have been doing quite well, impressive even. At least relative to what remember.

I did have the plants too close to the lighting at one point and it did bleach the leaves/ tops one two of the larger plants. While they did recover, one of the plants was-- "LED fimmed"? This has been the only issue I've experienced. The light was received promptly, set up was easy, the fixture has some well thought out design features, and the plants are growing nicely. As I wrote earlier it has been a minute or two since my last grow and I no longer have my grow journals but I feel this light will be more than suffienct to supply my light needs for the remainder of the grow.

Can I see pics your plants? That's 275 watts right? whats your canopy dimensions? Can you explain what u mean by well thought out design features?

As far as the wattage/PAR/ect... I have no idea of the true values, I lack the necessary tools. I can only go from what the manufacture lists on the website.

Canopy: Right now they are still in the early stages of veg, I just fimmed a WW a couple of days ago and the other WW was, uh, "LED fimmed", for lack of a better phrase, after about two weeks. The two freebies are slow growing but very stout-- I'm still deciding on how to approach this as I am planning on scrogging all the plants. All are sitting in a 4x4 tent with some fans. I am aiming for a 3x3.5' grow area- I'll have a better idea when I see how well they grow on the suggested canopy parameters from Plat.

Design-- I remember my old 150w hood was a pain because it would tilt constantly. The Plat has four hooking points on the top on each corner. To me, it gives a feeling of "more sturdiness". And there's two switches for Veg and Flower spectrum's ( but I have had both of them activated the whole time). Its pretty quiet and it runs cool enough to leave my hand on it.

These measurements, ney, opinions are the best I can offer right now.

your light will most likely flower a 1.5ft x2.5 ft. Its really for 1 plant vegged for 50days or 2 vegged at 25. or 4 of them from 10 day veg.

The 1st thing that comes to my mind when comparing platinum led is to blackdog! A lot of wattage in a little shell! BURN SPOTS! High par values directly under. and u have to putem close just to get the high par! or Cali Lightworks, but I think Cali Lights are better than the other 2!

I remain optimistic! From what I have read and seen online ( most of it being published by Plat ) this light should perform better than the predictions you have posted. Hoping to prove you wrong :)

P.S. I am also a sand-bagging, salty dog-- I may have another 450 laying around, begging to be set up ;)

You can find TopLED/MarsHydro users who say the same about their lights. I have a Lighthouse Blackstar which is a rebranded Chinese import. Also a generic Apollo I ordered direct from China. They grow well. They produce more heat than better diodes. It's not until you run with a better light that you see the difference in bud density, etc.

Best thing you could do is supplement with side lighting. I feel like that compensates for less than ideal light.

The problem with the more expensive rebranded lights like Platinum is how you can get better diodes for the same money, or a little more per watt.

The thing that makes Platinum a non-starter for me is how they deliberately identify themselves as AdvancedLED which is a reputable, Cree-using grow light. If Platinum would stoop to that kind of subterfuge to attract customers, what else would they do? That's not just slick marketing like the other rebranders (Kind, Lush, HydroGrowLED, GrowBlu, Blackdog). It's outright fraud.

I'm surprised 420mag accepted Platinum as a sponsor. TopLED/MarsHydro isn't anything to brag about, but I don't believe they've crossed the kind of lines Platinum has. I'm surprised 420mag takes it so lightly. The 420 community should boycott a company like Platinum. To have a large community taking Platinum's money to give it credibility within the community seems wrong to me.

For the most part, the research I conducted through that site and a few others is what ossified my decision to purchase the Pled's. Now after a few months of reading more in depth a multitude of subjects and getting a "feel" for what each site has to offer, I find myself here the most.

If what you fellas say is correct about the Pled's, I will need your advice a little down the road for this grow to be best it can be!
