Im growing 4 clones in a closet under a 1000 watt MH. I got them about a week ago and they were about 6 inches tall.
I need a little advice.
1) How my should I be watering them? I water them every other day and nute them every other day. I water until the soil about half a finger length below is damp.
2) Are my lights at a good height? They are about 5 inches above the plants.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

They look my better than when I first got them.

1000 watts 5 inches from plants? It's a wonder they haven't gone up in flames :) Try 2-3 feet above the plant.
You really only need maybe 150 watts of CFL's right now for the veg.
I would imagine that those pots only need watered twice a week. Water until a bit of water comes out of the bottom then don't water or feed until the pot feels pretty light. They probably only need fed once per week. Water-Water-Feed. Water-water-feed.
Feed them only 1/4 to 1/2 strength veg nutes until they are much larger.

Also right now im leaving my lights on 24 hours. When should I switch them to a cycle, and what is a good cycle I could use?
Also if I kept one of the plants in veg would it work as a mother plant so i could take clones off?

You've got a lot of reading and studying to do JK :)
To achieve an even remotely successful grow I 'd guess that it takes 100 hours of reading and watching videos.. To get good at this takes well over a year of experimenting, learning and following this website. Look on youtube there are some great videos. You want to start with the really long vids by Mr Green and George Cervantes. George Cervantes has a good book called "Indoor Marijuana Horticulture"...

You want the light to be high enough so that when you hover your hand just above the canopy it just feels a little warm from the light.

You need to get those clones really healthy. They should be nice and all green and about 16-24 inches tall. You should look up LST, training techniques and topping. When they are nice and bushy and healthy and tall you can flip to 12/12.

Cloning takes a while to perfect, but yes you could keep one as a mother. You will want to top her a bunch so that she is really bushy so she produces a lot of clones. Possibly, a better idea is to grow from seed. Possibly, an even better idea is to order some autoflower seeds from Herbies Head Shop.com. Get a Northern Lights autoflower and you will have a good chance of success. They're just so easy to grow. They pretty much grow themselves..

Back off on the nutes and let these plants recover for a while.

What strain is this? Is it Indica or Sativa or hybrid?

They do look like so far they're taking a beating. If your a new grower, most of the time a newb will use wayyy to much nutrients starting out. Like mentioned, let 'em get some rest.

Thats what the clones looked like when i first got them. They were in pretty rough shape. I havent nuted them at all, im letting them dry out a bit before I even give them more water.

I have done a lot of reading, and I also have a friend who has grown for years helping me along with it. I was planning on getting some seeds within the next week or so. The clones were just very cheap so I bought them to see if I could make them work. Worst case scenerio they die and I start over from seeds, im not too invested in them. I believe they are Indica but I am not 100 percent certain.

Oh, nice. You are lucky to have a dedicated room. Looks good. They are looking better. I am jealous of your setup now :) That Fluorescent light will rock for veg. I like growing from seed. It's easier for me. Easier to train.

Eventually you will want a carbon filter and fan. You could also put up something to reflect the light back onto the plants once you are in flower. The footprint or effective area of light from a 1000 w HPS will be probably 6ft x 6ft.or 5ft x 5ft, You will want to reflect that light right back onto the plants. You can hang Panda film or build something,

a 400 w hps would be better to start with. 1000 is a really big light. Actually you could probably do the whole grow with just fluorecents that you have... 1000 is overkill for most home gardeners. It will produce a lot of heat. If it's a digital ballast maybe you can run it at 50%

What are you using for water and nutes?

Once I go into bud im planing on hanging mylar from the ceiling around the bud light.

in the corner of my grow room theres a vent, im goona bring air in through that which ill have an 2 air conditioners running in the upstairs of my house to keep it nice and cool, then bring that air in and through the hud. Then Ill have ducting going outside the window which ill cover with a blanket and maybe slightly cracked, and sealed off. Ill be running a carbon filter throught the part that goes outside.

Reason im using a 1000 W hps is because I bought both my veg light and my 1000W hud along with a brand new bulb and the ballast with it for only 300 dollars from a buddy of mine. I only have about 500 dollars invested atm.

For my nutes and watering im not too sure yet. I havent beem able to find a reliable source on how much to water/nute/ect. Right now im mixing 1 tsp floranova grow per 1 gallon of water. Im not too sure on the watering amounts yet, im planning on doing water, water, feed, after I let the plants chill out for a couple of days.

As for nutes for Flowering I havent really figured that out yet. I have a root builder that my friend also gave me, Im just not sure on the main nute to use.

Hello, well iwas in your position a few years ago and you came to the right place to learn all about it, yep like the other member said, youtube videos are your best friend, smoke a bowl go trhu some vids for a couple of hours you will learn ALOT.

I only use flora nova grow and flora nova bloom. So far great results, clones I dont feed em nutes that much i wil lgo half the streng u giving them. 1/2 tsp pr gal. water them evry 3 days. rememebr when water stays on the tray it creates humidity so try and water them and as soon as u see water coming out stop!, you can have the at 3-4 feet at 1k watts. when u see new leafs snap the dry ones, they just taking energy fro mthe whole plants instead of been a solar panel for it.

Good luck and hit me up for any Q's amigo.

Thanks ill keep that in mind. About when would you say is a good time to start watering them everyday and nuting about every 3? Should I wait until theyre about 1.5-2 foot tall?

I plan on starting some seeds a the dispensary within the week.
