I'm thinking about taking my girls and my lights out if my cab and start actually using my closet for a grow space. Will I get less light penetration if I change my grow space? I don't have any reflective material to cover up the walls right now. Will I have to put my lights closer to my plants?i want to do this because I want my temps to drop down to around 77 degrees. It is steady at 88 right now.
Thanks for the help RIU
I'm in the middle of my first grow, I have two closets going right now. Each one presented different challenges -- just make sure of two thing before you put them in: You need to have good airflow in and out of the closet, to remove warm air and replace it with cool air. And you need to be able to black out the room completely, when you go to 12/12/flower.
Heat was a challenge for me in my spaces, so I had to change the timers over to have the lights come on at night when it was cooler, so that the fan would be bringing in cooler night air to work against the light's heat. Making my plants night-time during daylight hours required that I take extra measures to make sure its really black in there for 12 hours.
Since we are not working with spaces that were designed from inception as grow rooms (like factory made grow tents), we have to work with what we have, and it can be less than optimal. One of my spaces I built as a room within a room, so I'm hoping that the two sets of doors when both closed will block out light sufficiently. The other room I had to cut a large hole at the top of the closet door for the exhaust fan, and then cut another hole at the bottom as a passive vent to let cool in -- these of course let light in! So I've created a thick black curtain to block out the light during the day. That just means that I have to be home at both ends of my 12/12 cycle to take off and put back on the curtain. If I (or someone) were not there to take it off before the timer with the lights kicks on, the heat trapped in the room would certainly cook the plants.
Keep reading and looking at the pictures. There is a "big picture" to the grow cycle, that I think we only fully absorb once we've been though it... maybe a couple of times.
