led UFO hacks?

You can see that running at a lower current is more efficient just by looking at the charts on the datasheets. That means if you run at half the current, you will need almost twice the leds, but you will get much better efficiency, light distribution, and temperature distribution.

Well that's an opinion and that's fine. But, they call them 3 watt LEDs? Are they really? Or are they perhaps 6 watt LEDs and they label them as 3 Watt LEDs because they last longer at that wattage.

Case in point.PCs can be overdriven. They scale back the real actual speed in which the Processor runs to protect it from heat and early failure. Add a liquid cooling heat sink and powerful processor fan and voila you can drive it harder.

Anyone got a watt meter and a variable resistor? Order up a epi whatever LED and test to see at what wattage the LED blows. Then reduce that wattage maybe 25% and run it for a while to see if it's performance degrades. Or just search to see if anyone else has. I'm sure the engineers have done this. Wonder if it's published? I dunno.
They are called Ebay customer's aka "i'm sure the engineers have done this" how many examples of blown diode cheap lights do you need to see :) .....

CPU's are nothing like the Diode itself in terms of circuitry....scaling would be done on the driver side anyway for LED and then could be further custom defined thru user input, like a CPU in sort...but certainly two way different examples.....other than the fact, they are both DC circuits, but so are batteries....eh?

Nope. It's just another wannabes worthless fucking opinion. Yes I know, I rocked the Deans list every semester and carry a 4.0.

FUCK OFF!
Give me a break, I have dean list's on my accolades too I guess....

Really though, how can you argue that 3w isn't arbitrary or whatever the fuck you are arguing about....

What if you have had one diode @ 3v's @ 1000ma making 3 watts or another one @6v's and 500ma also making 3 watts...wouldn't you want to know how to commonly compare them?
[[This also completely sets aside the fact that in the real world, no "3w diode" is ran at 3 watts, why is that? Maybe because its a MARKETING TERM...just another wannabe term!!!!!!!!!

Another wannabe here who is trying ask the pertinent questions, not just derail on some fuktard diatribe....:peace:

LED lights with proper spectrums work just fine thank you.

Now, I've tried CFL, 2 cheap ass Chinese UFO LEDs, HPS and even bought a $130 induction CFL thing.

They all work just fine. And my cheap ass Chinese LEDs still work like they did 3 and 5 years ago respectively. I was trying to draw this thread into a higher level of thinking about what if.

And FINALLY! I believe its a stupid idea but, might be cool to overdrive some fucking LEDs just for fucks sake. I am sure the engineers who designed them did what they did for a reason. Just saying. They're cheap enough. Somebody blow one up. Just please wear safety goggles and make a video.

You are drawing them into a dead end line of thinking, Mr Dean's President List......no refuting my math about 3w diodes I see.....I guess that means you decided I was right after all, like that matters. The #'s don't lie.......

Hack the Ufo with a COB addition....that's what I have always wanted to do with the casing...Strip the drivers, pcb, and diodes out, keep the fans, fan power supply, on/off switch, plug/wiring etc and then add a heatsink and something Cree....

@GrowUrOwnDank

I am sorry you feel that way...I still see you don't understand fundamental AC/DC concepts, diode construction and Constant Current....read on any of those topics to divulge your answer...if you are interested....

If you want to call names fine...I have been working with LED's for almost 2 years and started out as ignorant as you...:peace:
No need to be polite to this wanker, I'll take care of her

This is what I wasn't trying to explain! Watt meter and testing LEDs with a variable resistor! If you would shut up and listen every once in a while. Well? Maybe you too could make the presidents list.

I know what the fuck you are talking about, I had dropped several hints and right over your fucking head....

Don't you think that if Ebay customers have blown diodes in real life situation, that part of your problem is solved? Now you could measure the range of Tc, to see what your diodes will handle, but real life tells you it has been done...

Regardless, how come not a single 3w diode runs @ 3w? You never answered......regardless of the pertinence, it does matter, since it means you understand how to measure the over-current of the diode.....That IS YOUR TEST RIGHT?????? and you don't have a clue....:peace:

Well this discussion got pretty ugly fast. That being said, I know who I will be asking any LED advice in the future lol. Abiqua knows his shit about LEDs...
