Plant problem - please help a newbie.

Hi guys - this is my first grow and I'm having some difficulty identifying what the problem is on one of my plants. The spots are freaking me out and I can't figure out what's causing it. It's on multiple leaves...



Growing in FFOF with some added perlite.
No nutes given at all so far.
She is 19 days old.

Is it possible you got some drops of water on the plants when feeding? They act like magnifying lenses and burn the leaves. That's what it looks like to me.

I'm not entirely sure it's magnification of light and/or burn from the nutrients. When I get a drop or two on leaves I'll rub my finger across the leaf to flick it off. It tends to spread and leave a small coating. Not deep and beady enough to magnify the light I don't believe. But, I'll still get some discoloration which is larger but less noticeable. I think it's the nutes.

since u aren't adding nutes it's possible it may be a defencincy but you'll need someone with more experienced to tell u which one. this is only one poss.

Looks to me like something dripped across the plant and the plant didn't like it. Unless I'm mistaken there are smaller bits of necrosis in the background. Notice how the damage is roughly in a line?

Now I've got a bunch of people telling me water burn actually doesn't even exist...

There doesn't seem to be any new damage occurring, so hopefully it's fixed... I'd love to try to figure out what was wrong though. Here are some more pictures. Any chance this could all be fungus gnat damage? I've seen a 3-4 of these guys over the last few days, so I sprinkled DE on the soil and it seems to have solved the problem. Would that mean the gnat larvae were munching on the roots? I'm just trying to prevent this in the future. Also worth nothing that all the damage occurred on the lower levels of leaves...

Should I be concerned that the new growth on the top is curling down so much? It's also very skinny...

Do you have a fan blowing directly on them? I get some cupping or irregular shape (like the flesh of the leave is outgrowing the frame of the leaf) when I have a circulation fan blowing too strong, too directly across the plants. Too much transpiration. (I've read low humidity and high heat can cause the same appearance. All three in combination could occur.).

Edit: leaf tips curling down looks like N def. That was another thought I had. But, they don't look dark green enough. And, they have that bubbly (outgrown) appearance I described above.

Yeah I have a fan blowing on them, but it's only happening to this one plant. Do you think that is what caused the dead spots?

The leaves in the last two photos look a little shiny (brittle?) to me. Makes me think of overfeeding which can cause weird deficiency-like symptoms. It can cause N tox clawing. Runoff ph and ppm would be good to know.

Water burn does exist. I only had burn if the water had nutes in it though. Foliar feeding very very lightly with EJCatalyst half spoon per gallon with just 40watts of CFL burned my plant every time i tried. All because multiple people told me it doesnt exist. Trust me i jacked up 5-6 fan leaves. They all had burns the exact shape as water droplets. If you wet your plant, as it dries, even if you dont wipe the water off good, it will form a droplet that may burn your plant with the lights on. This only happened to me with sprays pre-mixed with nutes. Im sure the growers environment/strain genetics/products makes a difference being prone to top feeding/spraying.

see those orange water droplet burns? yeah she got that when she was 3 weeks in veg. spray right before the lights go out, nothing. spray when the lights get on, come home to a chickenpox fan leaf. I will admit though i had crazy toxicity issues in ffof transplanting early.
