Is anyone running a window a/c unit in a sealed room?

And if so then how to set it up?

I still occasionally use them in small setups(4k watts of light of less). Sure, it's not going to be quite as effecient as a split system, but oh well sometimes right? It's cheaper to buy than a split system(if only needing one window banger).
I'll usually power them up through a contactor, so that a day/night temp switch or climate controller is not handling the load of the AC. And also to control a 240v unit via 120v thermostat.
I turn the AC all the way down, and like I said, plug the trigger cord from the contactor into a day/night temp switch or a climate controller which has the seperate day/night thermostat built in.

I have a small space. 7x7x7 So im running 2x 1000 and a couple leds. I may go to 4x 600.

The main thing is to get it dealed up and run co2. May not be ideally efficient, but hoping it will work well enough.

Last go used a window unit in a vented room and relied on the units thermometer. Didnt work as well as i wouldve liked so think ill turn it all the way down and use a teml switch.

Curious as to why not let the thermostat on window unit handle temp...does the thermostat not work as effectively on unit, as a separate temp controller does? What is powering up through a contractor mean? Thanks having some issues myself on temp control...

I prefer to have a different day and night temperature. I like: 68-70F at night, 80-82F lights on. I don't know of any window unit that has a programable thermostat.
Using a contactor to handle the power supplied to the AC, will allow you to turn on and off the AC via a simple 120v thermostat(or a low voltage thermostat if you wanted, and the right contactor is used),or a temp/climate controller like I mentioned earlier.
This dude is a dork, but shows how a contactor works:
It's actually what's most likely in your homes AC system, and is used to turn the compressor on/off;-)

Trust what @Aboutapound says about hooking up a day and night thermostat, its the correct way to go. Actually the only way to go.

I have a sealed room with 4 x 1000's and a 12,000btu window banger ... I set the temp on the unit to 66 and when lights are on it stays steady 79-80 and when they are off it stays right about 68-69.... You can try it out and see.... Works for me :)

Oh yeah and I run lights at night

Does your A/C ever shut off? Thats the nice thing about a day and night thermoustat. The A/C shuts down.

Probably not with only 3k btu of AC per 1000w light. Scary

I would definately put a high temp shutdown switch(watchdog) on your lights. Because one day......
Actually, it's a must to install one on all sealed growrooms I build. Imagine an AC failure in a sealed growroom.
