Please share! hoods withOUT glass??

k guys please help me out here as im ready to get my flower bay going.... my first idea was to go 10x5 but now im gonna go 7x5 and the other 3 feet im planning a "lung room" or something like that.. ill be running 2 600 hps and 2 400 mh the 600s will be in hoods without the glass and 400s are bare.... i dont want a sealed room and the lung room will be more of a filter room i guess?? .... heres a pic of my idea....and im just looking for ideas tips so on .... just wanna get other input on what worked or didnt work for them...

I don't really see the purpose for the extra intake/exhaust spaces. If you are just going to exhaust through a carbon filter, the extra room just seems like a space for stink to creep in before it goes out your ?passive? exhaust? If you don't already have a wall in that space, I would just use it for more flower space. That carbon filter will actively pull air in from everywhere anyway. I usually don't add in a passive air intake in my room designs since the fan/filter combo (if properly sized for the space) will pull it in unless you have fully hermetically sealed your space. Just my thoughts from a quick look at your sketch.

Grat advice. Jimmy... Simply you want cool fresh air coming into your rooms at the bottom near floor. You want the carbon filter to remove hot air by putting it *far away* from floor cold vent by putting the filter fan up near ceiling where all the hot air is. This moves cool air completely through your entire room. In other words in your diagram remove the lung rooms and move the filter fan to the opposite wall of the cool fresh air intake.

Or better yet, just buy a wall air conditioner if it's going to get hot where you live!!

Just based off your sketch I would say that you have 3 options for your exhaust. ( all of these are based off of an assumed 7' ceiling height)
1. Install a 6" inline fan and filter sized to approximately 300-375 CFM. That would exhaust the air in the flower room and should be able to keep the temps under control. This would be the basic recommendation. Keep in mind that the fan will be going 24/7 and will also be pulling air during your dark cycle and could lower your temps enough that you may need supplemental heat at night. (depending on the average ambient temperature in the entire space during dark cycle hours)
2. If you really want to make sure that you don't stink up the house/block during trimming, drying and all the other times in the stink window, you could install a fan/filter combo sized to pull approximately 900-1000 CFM. That would definitely keep the temps in the flower room down and would provide enough Negative pressure that it would be filtering all the air in the entire space You could even size it to 700 CFM and still be exchanging air once every 2-3 minutes.
3. Stay with the 300-375 CFM fan/filter in the flower room, then at your exhaust port put a backdraft damper on the line leading into the flower room, then add a Y (wye) branch and run a separate exhaust fan/filter out into the workspace sized at 300-375 cfm. Keep the flower room exhaust on a timer to run during the light cycles when you need to remove heat and keep the workspace exhaust on 24/7 (you could also run 2 exhaust lines and skip the damper and wye branch

ok so after rethinking many ideas and using helpfull tips from all you guys here, im 99% sure i have it figured out as far as my layout and equipment go!! and i have a new drawing, its much more simple and less overthinked lol!!..... thanks again!! really very very helpful!! and i know i can find answers by just searching google but id rather have a conversation with others and get other input ya know??

Id stick with your 2 600s, add a bare bulb mh in the center if u can.

I noticed in your sketch u asked a question about your dehumidifer; it must be in your flower rooms or your humidity will be too high, if your fans do their job, it shouldn't have to run much at all, more when the lights are off than on.

If you have the room, your going to what to put a Y exhaust on the end of your exhaust/carbon filter. Put a temperature controlled damper on both side of the y. Your going to need the dampers to be opposite of each other (one open, one shut). Put the open side on the end of the y that would be your exhaust. This is going to allow you to run your carbon filter as just a scrubber when your room does not need to bring in fresh air (it's already too cold in your room), and to run it as an exhaust when it is needed. Buy a 75 dollar day/night controller and plug both dampers into that. Set your day(max) and your night(min). Gives you way more control on cold temps in the winter. Obviously it doesn't help cool the room if it gets too hot. But can save u a lot of money on power bill in winter.


Personally, id get a 12k btu mini split, 100 pint dehumidifier and a fuzzy logic co2 controller/tank and not have to worry about a single thing. 100% control. Small window ac for drying area, can be converted to portable if your in a basement.

Also, how do u plan on cooling your drying area? And is it possible to make the door to that not in your flower room? Don't wanna have to walk through your crop u just started to get to drying room. Are you going to filter the inlet air coming into your flowering room, if so you'll need to compensate for the excess negative pressure when choosing your fan size.

dude!! im telling you guys this dude is like a scientist or some shit!! lol and to be honest i really wouldnt be shocked!!..... but for real my bros, if your a noob or even just a couple years in you can learn so much! C Dreamin! everything you post is like right on point and helps put shit right infront of my face if you know what i mean? thanks alot!! sometimes i wayyy over think or skip little details and you sure do help keep my ass line son!! lol... i think a big issue for me on making up my mind is there are just too many choices i guess ... lol ... like.. ahhh!!! i want EVERYTHING!!! :0 ..... anyways C Dream, so i have started maping my layout as for where the girls will sit and man!!! i came up with a pretty sweet little "bleacher" type thing..... on the back of the wall centered in room i have a trellis set up ( 4x4 vert) and im gonna have two of my OGs in 3 gl smarts, setup in the net .... so as for the equipment ... lights the same... 2 x 600s 2x 400s, so my fresh air mind game! lol god i keep changing ideas lol... so the window i will be "pulling" fresh air from is id say about 20-25 foot of ducting.... i do plan to have HEPA filter on the outside and maybe another filter of some sort before room intake?? .... will i need a inline fan with a distince that far? maybe just a booster mid way?? .... and for exhaust im still foggy and honestly i keep getti g lost with how you explained the carbon, into y and dampers... lol sorry ... i did rip a nice one of some M.O.B...(maine only bud, mother of berry, maines own blueberry) ... its tasty tasty tasty!! and my god!!...the aroma is out of this world!! the crisp snap explodes berry earthy, sweetness and aftertones of funk chemmy dankness!! its a good strain for sure!! a maine clone only and i have finaly found my cuts!! i went and picked them up from my buddy today so now i have 3 cuts!! .... 2 for me and one for my other friend thats been searching her out over a year!! now i finaly can gift him a true legit m.o.b!!.... they came from a respected place and she has been in this garden for a couple years now! i was intruduced to this cat around xmas and finaly earned his cut i guess?? lol im f ing stoked!! heres a pic!! ... sorry a bit of a sidetrack kinda smoke lol... its heavy heavy first 30- hour but doesnt really stay around much after... anyways yea so C Dream!! im hoping you can lay out the exhaust a bit more for me man?? im kinda lost :/ ... and im not sure if i should have my carbon scrubber just free in the room or do i want to hook it up to run out the exhaust???

This is how I would set up your room. I will do a diagram of close up on carbon filter to help u understand better. The y and dampers let you use you fan/carbon filter for an exhaust when needed and a scrubber when needed.

Personally, id run an 8in max fan for my exhaust, and a 6 in for my inlet. May not alway need to run the inlet, but with 20 to 25 ft of ducting and a hepa filter your gonna need atleast that 8 inch. Put the hepa filter on the inside (for security reason of course). Hydro shops sell a blue cone hepa filter, go from your window>ducting>6in flange(inlet in your grow room;6 inches off ground)>hepa filter. Therefore you would be pushing air through your hepa filter that would sit inside your flower room. You will have to clean this regularly.

oh heres pics of how my girls will look in flower bay..... the black polly hanging is just for now... im gonna build wall with 1.5 metal stud drywall.... then once its all sq out im gonna use black x white polly... and wrap the whole inside with it .. 90% refl, white side and easy to keep clean....

If you do decide to do the dampers, remember to get one "open" and one "closed". If your in a natural cold environment, put the open one on the scrub side and the closed on exhaust. This will make your carbon filter scrub between your set temperatures. Vise versa if in a warm climate.(will exhaust between your set temps) You will want to set the controller on heat, not cool.

Keep in mind a proper dry area is around 65-70 degrees and 50% rh. You will need an ac for this unless your in a basement buried 8 ft underground. And possibly a dehumidifer an humidifier for different seasons of the year for that drying area also.
