I am starting my 4th week of flowering with these plants . I have provided pics.

This is my first hydro grow I've always grown in soil before. What amazes me is I have had not one single leaf die or dry out .

My question is by looking at my pictures do you think I need to trim the big huge Fan leaves to let some light into the middle of the plant? I have never trimmed one leaf and never has one leaf fallen off since this grow. I didn't want to mess with it and just let it grow but I think it's starting to get to dense in leaf matter.

What do you think?

The big one on the right is an Orange Kush the smaller one on the left is Durban Poison... Not sure why the DP did not get as big as the OK but either way it's gonna be some good smoke here in about another 5 weeks time.

So you think its too late to thin out the leaves towards the center of the plant to free up some breathing room?

Your plants look awesome, why change a thing? If anything id bend that top down and tie it at a 90 degree angle on that taller plant. Your yield would be pretty huge. Check out some of the bending thread. Nice work on those.

Of course the fan leafs store energy the plant needs for production but to clean out the inside of the plant doesn't hurt at all ur on hydro so don't u feed them everything they need also do u use a bud hardener if not I would use it grotek monster bloom is a excellent product excitied to see the durdan poison I'll be watching

Thanks! Yeah I been growing in soil for 2 years now this is my first hydro grow. Seems with soil I was always battling over watering ,under watering , gnats and just a big mess all the time. With this hydro setup the only insect I've seen is a yellow jacket and one of those huge mosquitos that wandered in somehow. I did have problems at first with brown slime building up in my rez for the first couple of weeks but i fixed that problem by switching my light cycle to be on at night when it's cool and off during the day when it's warmer , this keeps my temps down under 72 in the grow room and around 65 in the rez. Plus I filled my entire flood table with the hydroton which blocked light and helped my roots find place to go instead of just sitting in the puddle at the bottom . But once you sort out the details it's pretty much low maintenance for me anyway . I change my rez out every Sunday as well.

Good luck

Thanks , I think I will just leave them be for now and next time thin out the inner part of the plant before they start flowering . I was just worried about air flow and the lower buds not getting enough light , but I think I will just use those lower popcorn buds to make hash. The upper buds should be nice and fat.

As far as my feeding schedule goes I use the full General Hydroponics product line

Flora Micro , Flora Grow , Flora Bloom , Rapid Start (roots) , Liquid Koolbloom , Floralicious and I use Dutch Master Gold Zone to keep everything sterile and to condition the roots. I follow the directions from the feeding schedule on their website to a Tee. Mid week around wednesday I topp the rez off with 3 gallons of plain water adjusted for PH with no nutes then Sunday I drain the rez and refill with 6 gallons .

One question though. In my last week before harvest do you think I should use a flushing product or will flushing with plain water be good enough?

PS. Those gnats you see on my yellow insect trap are from my last grow (in soil). Havent seen any this grow.

I was wondering the strip on the wall haha I use ionic bloom boost grotek monster bloom and in veg I use dyna grow another excellent product And cleaning it up helps air flow and increases ur bottom end growth u can never have enough bud lol and if u have a light meter just run across the top and run along the bottom u will see u the difference and for flushing run str8 water threw nothing else for 7 to 9 days

dude don't trim any leafs unless you are having moisture problems . Defoliating is counter productive .
Screenshot_2015-04-12-13-29-22.png Screenshot_2015-04-12-13-29-46.png First picture is juicy fruit eight plants which yielding nearly 24 ounces and second is a skywalker og female crossed to a secret valley purple pine berry male I call it skypine yielded 4 ounces and six grams dried totally take from this table was nearly 2 pounds off 12 plants so I guess that's counter productive

It's counter productive to knock everything off yes to trim up the middle of the plant where ur bud grows with use of a light meter and selective note I'm using selective trimming u can achieve good things I'm trying to help not just throwing wild ideas around lol

And he's growing on hydro tone how would he have moisture issues and even if he did trimming off them off would be counter productive and hurt the plants jaytea I have a buddy that instead of growing a room full of plants grows four trees at a time and with topping training the plants for months and selective trimming he gets a pound or close to a plant so I guess he's not productive either I'm not trying to slamming tone because he's so what rite but u have to experiment and try things outside the bun just like taco bell and t bell has some good stuff rite haha

We are all here to become educated and learn and if everybody just says don't do it well what the he'll will any of us do or learn we all have made and will continue to make bad choices but being apart of this community allows us to see and learn to better each other and urself I've done this for seven years jaytea and there is guys on here that have done it for longer than me every time u learn new tricks wow what a great feeling I can honestly tell u the only guys that don't need to worry about selective trimming is guys that grow outside but us inside guys that run artificial sunlight we need all the help we can get
