Burping the jar

So in the past I have just trimmed hung dryed a few days then threw them into jars burping for a few minutes a few times a day for around two to three weeks but this time I wanted to try and be more dailed in , so I slow dryed the whole plant in a dark cool closet 70 degrees and constant humidity at 65 % , now I trimmed witch wasn't as bad as I thought with still having all the leaves on it and Jared them with little hydrometers , it only took around three dayz for the humidity to top off at 65 % in the jars with a few minute burp each day , should I continue to burp daily or should I burp weekly now that I'm at 60-65% ?? And for how long I'm using half gallon jars thanks

I like burping daily to be safe, would be a shame if you got some moldy bud because you were trying to burp it less often. Also note that you make sure and not fill the jar all the way to the brim so it has some room to breathe

I would. It seems they're still offgassing (converting chlorophyll? terpenes?). I've read some say the stomata remains open and is part of this. (Others say no.). But, it does seem like I notice an unpleasant smell if I don't give them fresh are every day or two during that 2-3 weeks after they reach 65.

It sounds like you're concerned about burping lowering the humidity since you're already at the right level. (And, you don't want to buy bovedas.). You can exhale into the jar to replace some moisture lost from burping. Hopefully you have a humidity meter in the jar. If so, you can see when you need to do that, and how it affects it. Whether to give one or four exhales, etc.

That's what I was looking for thank you

For those that use boveda, you still hang dry for a few days correct? it seems obvious, but im thinking about purchasing some and i just want to be sure.

I belive you still have to hang dry due to the fact if you jar fresh chopped weed humidity would be at 99% not s 100% sure though

I like the boveda packs and have been messing around with them for a couple harvests. I like hang drying for 3 or 4 days then jarring with no boveda for the first week. Burping everyday, after a week I throw it in there for storing the jars.

Yes for sure you still hang. The goal being to get the humidity in your herb down around 62 then jar with Boveda packs. The Boveda pack is designed to maintain 62%, so if you hang a little soon, say 68%, the Boveda will work to bring down the humidity until it reaches 62% and then maintains that percent. If you jar at 58% the Boveda will work to bring the humidity up to 62% and again maintain that. If you jar at higher or lower humidities then the Boveda would have to work harder and will effect the life span of the pack so you will have to change it more often.

Basically, just get the herb close to 62% then jar with a Boveda pack. It's that simple. You could even go through and cure the herb for a month or whatever your method is, then add a Boveda to maintain the desired moisture content.

I think the best way is to jar a little early, probably in the 60's. Then drop the appropriate sized packet(s) in and forget about it.

You can get the Boveda packs from ebay and Amazon as well. you could probably find them local at a humidor(cigar) shop as well. They are cheap and the best reason to use them is to keep that humidity level down below the threshold where your herb could get moldy. Or, to keep the herb from getting to dry so that it turns to dust when you break it up.
