Alright my fellow led growers, time to shake off the rust and get my hands dirty. I will be testing osram's zelion 150w 3x2 = 100% monochromatic led panel. YES I know what year it is!

http://www.osram-americas.com/en-us/products/display-optic-specialty-lighting/Pages/ZELION-HL-Horticulture-LED-Fixtures.aspx
LIGHTING: 3x2 150w zelion is the largest one they make=== 3x2 stands for the coverage area and the # of modules used 3x2= 6 modules , for the math rejects like myself. Onto the pics
This is a beautifully built panel, no doubt. Osram went overboard as you would expect from them. Everything is powder coated and waterproofed. After I cleaned/sanitized (clorox wipes) the orca film and applied a mild food crop approved pesticide (bifenthrin) turned this panel on and fuck my eyes! seriously need to find my sunglasses. First thing I thought was no way this pulls 150w, makes my old hans look like a night light. So I killa-watt the thing and it draws 125w!lol
Osram on the binning in this fixture:
“One of the questions concerned which LEDs, and the binning, we have chosen for the products. There are 16 Red and 5 Blue OSRAM OSLON 80 LEDs per module. We are using a specifically chosen subset, from of the entire binning structure, that gives us the desired intensity and wavelength content for most horticultural applications.”
actual chips used (credit osramledman for getting it, Osram didn't want to play nice)
LH CP7P OSLON SSL80 Hyper Red (The only BIN type I could find availability of is the 2T3T which would make it an LH CP7P-2T3T-1 )
LD CQ7P OSLON SSL80 Deep Blue (This appears to only come in one BIN type, 2U3U, which would make it an LD CQ7P-2U3U-W5-1-K)
YES this is an expensive "150w" led fixture....................Osram and partners are trying to lower price....................some tid bits about it:
This is a UL/ETL approved and wet location rated fixture(ip65)..........we all know that shit is costly.
Your getting guaranteed high quality & efficient osram chips........no surprise as it's got their damn name on it.
Passive cooled and 100,000hrs rated life under 100F ambient temps.
Some US partners/distributors( riu lurkers ) wanted some "white" diodes in this fixture===== German's said " NEIN, no white for you!"lol... their research indicated otherwise and wanted to keep thermodynamic efficiency for a general purpose panel. Would I pick this 451/660nm spec, NO........way too much 660 and honestly it worries me a little. Only one way to find out if I'm wrong.
Almost 1200umol/s @ 24" (center) is very impressive for 125w draw IMO........the blues help. verified #s by ILT, apogee wouldn't confirm as we know that sensor won't play nice with deep red +. Tested against AT120 rb and lumigrow 650, "dusted" both over a 3x2, their words not mine. Beating the AT shouldn't surprise anyone(old nichia chips), but lumigrow has a huge wattage gain . Maybe osram isn't sending their best stuff to them?
Custom in-house designed optics, don't like secondary lenses. But I heard the optic engineer was obsessed with delivering a uniform par footprint . Sooooo I'm gonna leave them ON. Trying to get a footprint chart, hope it pans out.
Custom in-house designed drivers, claiming higher efficiency than meanwell in this class. Trying to get info on this as well. Seems osram won't tell, proprietary, worried about copycats.......I just want a damn# !
Birdie told me that this fixture was a top priority project at osram global(berlin) only behind automotive lighting.
As SDS has said, 730nm oslons could be in the future revisions.
I'm going full power from the get go............I don't mess with no switches==== it has 2 btw.
Using cree 18w daylight(5000k) bulb in a clamp reflector for pics/defs/pests and to see wtf I'm doing.....
STRAIN: Peak seeds NL "pure strain" 10 regs(BCSC nl#5 fem x EU nl male). Old school, reliable, potent, low odor, hardy. Lost 2 seeds trying to open their fort knox type packaging. Have all wood floors and looked everywhere, nada. Was pissed , got over it.
actually forgot ordering these.........will see how many males I get under this very heavy 660nm spec. Some here think this grow will be over in a month, ha.
Container : Root trapper II 30 gal................haven't done a micro bed-type grow in a while. Obviously didn't have enough of my great ROLS to fill it, so I added a local organic soil mix for the up pot. Organics mechanics container blend.
http://www.organicmechanicsoil.com/ no peat which i like, mostly coir, rice hulls, ewc.....
MEDIUM: ROLS with added soil^^^
FERTS: DTE vegan mix/comfrey powder/ ewc/ coconut flour/ aloe vera powder==PSU mix=== used 2.5lb(all of it) amended into the soil. Only de-chlorinated water from start-- end. Don't do teas/brews/aact/sst whatever anymore.........wasn't worth the hassle for me.
Exhaust : Old ass dayton blower (250-275cfm),and a 12 inch oscillating fan in the "grow room"
Intake: Passive for stealth reasons
Odor: small ozone generator attached to the exhaust........not concerned that bad with NL.
Light schedule: 12/12 from seed for height restriction and par output concerns, I will run 24/0 initially till they all pop to prevent stretch.
Monitors: Temp/RH/ppm meter with NO BATTERY BACKUP...........fucks, so annoying
.......germ rates may suck.
Parrot flower power bluetooth plant monitor...........here's the hype video
completely unnecessary gizmo..........light/fert sensors will be worthless at this price point, temp probe is 5f off. I just want the live soil moisture readings(that's solid from my testing), their is cannabis in the sensors database, won't use it. I'm hitting busy season at work and it will email me if my mix goes dry. funny as the light reading is telling me to move the plants from under this led panel(shade)=== doesn't pick up the deep red.
The seeds where placed in the medium after a 24hr soak, once they head north we start this shit.
lets hope for an easy run and that Osram doesn't send it's ninjas after me
Comments and criticisms are always welcome..........let's try not to fight though, enough of that BS going on around this section. A US distributor wanted to see if this fixture could "effectively" flower cannabis or not, that's what I'm here to show ==== nothing more.
be safe and happy growing RIU.......
edit............misspelled testing in the thread title........lol, great start
