Here's what we are dealing with folks.

I appreciate any advice short of peeing on my lawn.

I have some grass seed. I was going to rake up, shovel over, remove dead portions/roots and seed the worst portions.

Or is there an easier way?

How does that seed with mulch stuff do?

This area gets full sun and beyond 2-3 weeks of tending to grass seedlings, will get little irrigation.

P.S. I have seeded the other side of my lawn with great success. Turn over soil, remove roots of dead grass, lay seed, rake into dirt and water once a day for 2-3 weeks.

Very labor intensive. Not that I mind so much, but husband wants me to ask you guys anyways.

I wish my husband could look like this while mowing. He's got the mexican look down. Just need to get him waxed and cut like this guy.

ALRIGHT.... so just rake and seed? Or use a seedmulch mix?

We just repaired an area like yours , you need a Thatch Rake to remove the dead grass & roots , after thatching the area & removing all the dead shit soak the soil very heavy , spread out your seed & cover the entire area with a thin layer of top soil that you spread out with a rake , water everyday & you'll have new grass in about a week .

It helps if you soak the seed in water for 2 days before spreading the seed , you get about 90% germination from soaking the seed & the top soil keeps the seed in place & moist .

If you airate your lawn every year you won't get those dead areas .

i just water mine a little more heavily in the spring and let it overgrow between mowings. leave the bag off the mower and just blow your clippings all over the lawn. free fertilizer. mow at the highest possible setting.
i agree with buck here.. i like to have my mower higher, especially in the hot summer, and let it get a bit longer between cuts, mean while, my one back neighbor is out there cutting his inch lawn down to 3/4's of an inch, three x's per week.. his shit looks awful in the dog days..

plus, you get weeds that way. most weeds just need a drop of water and the slightest light.
