I have noticed a lot of HUGE buds on the CFL forum.. more than I am seeing from HID lights...

of coure the outdoor forum has the largest BUDs :)


BUT it is a bit peculiar that this forum is producing better size nugs... at least for the pictures i have seen... than the HID(HPS) grows

My thoughts are....

Sure it's possible that some people on here are cheating and posting pics that are not even theirs... but

I know that plants grown properly under cfls, will definitely produce larger buds then plants improperly grown under HID.

Just cuz you are growing under HID does not mean you are getting huge buds... It's the entire grow that will determine the size and amount of buds.

In other words...

You can get the best grower on this site and have him grow with cfls
Match him up with the worst grower on this site growing with HID.

The cfl guy will get some great buds..
the other guy will get...... a dead plant =[

My partner wants to use CFLs with maybe some other lighting that's not HID. Perhaps he will convince me it's possible to do so, and grow sufficently so that I am able to self-supply (I hope so) - we'll see!

Sure its big but they weigh much less because they are fluffy.
My last plant had a big bud that looks huge on a picture but it weighed 3gs on the scale.

I am VERY pleased with results of my 1st grow with CFL's. I'm averageing more than an oz. per plant & I've got wicked nice nuggets. Of course I did use 850watts of CFL's and T-12's. Lots of pics too check it out.
I am getting a 400 hps for the winter (when the heat wont be a prob) so I'll get to see the difference if any. Can't wait for that. Peace & Happy Harvesting!

i was not suggesting.. or I wasn't meaning to suggest that people were actually using HIDs and claiming they were CFls..

i don't think anybody did that

I just think that the CFL grows are producing very high quality buds over all.... they may not be producing the weight.. but they look pretty darn good!

That I can agree with... and I think there was this myth that you couldn't grow any thing descent with cfl's, but I think it was more of people not yet knowing how to apply them properly...

I just started flowering in my micro grow, so I still don't know what my buds will look like. I can say this though... Just with the vegging stage of my grow, I have already proven many things, I was told about cfl's, wrong.

For example...

"Cfl's will stretch your plants" NOT TRUE..Mine were short and very bushy =]

"You will need a lot of cfl's" NOT TRUE.. I veged 4 plants with only 4 26w cfl's =]


Now I"m hopping to disprove some flowering myths about cfls'.. Wish me luck =]

I don't get why people say the buds are airy and light, mine feel like rocks! I dunno if the finished product will end up like that, but I hope so?

I myself am a CFL grower, however most CFL users feel like they still need to prove to others that CFLs can produce a result. Thats long been proven. Thing is that HID lighting , if you have the space for it, will just produce more bud (usually).
Not trying to put anyone down here, im just a little annoyed when CFL growers continue to think they need to prove to the world that its not useless.

CFL growers get defensive because HID growers come into the CFL forum and spout off how much more they could get with HID. Perhaps if they didn't do that...CFL growers would not be on the defensive.

Maybe you do not do this, but most HID users are very condescending towards CFL growers.

its simply because there are still people right here on riu that swear you cant grow decent dense buds with cfls, hell I was reading the albfaq thread today and he said it yesterday I beleive, telling some not to bother supplementing there hps with cfls its a waste and they dont produce etc.....so whats really annoying is that with all of these great cfl grows you have people STILL perpetuating the myth that they dont work, and of course if you beleive in your cfl grow you will defend and challenge anyone that says otherwise....:joint:

fuckit my pictures speak for themselves, its obvious cfls work you just need to know how to use them to they're full extent, like me, anyway my strain is aurora indica and im using 12 26 watts which i switched 2 out for 65 watter for total of 25000+ lumens on 2 plants, cfls work but in the long run, and hps system gets you way more bud in the same area, and is MUCH simpler to set up and keep track of in my opinion and i've never used one personally just helped with friends grows. i plan on gettin at least a qp off this 1st grow

Before I even started my grow... I was almost talked out of it... I'm glad I wasn't.

But yes, some HID growers can be very condescending.

And it's less "You can get more with HID" and more like "your going to get shit for buds with those cfls.. Get HID!" =[

Ok.. well I think most of us already know that HID works very well... but we CHOOSE to grow differently..... whats wrong with that?... Funny part is, that most of the "cfl bashing" is done in the cfl forum!... It's as if they actively seek us out, just to look down on us.

Are cfl growers the minorities of marijuana growing and should we be treated as much?

Honestly ........ I DON'T CARE!

This is the way I choose to grow, and I'm happy with it =]

And for anybody with a hardcore HID mentality wants to put any of us down for it.... just think...

If we are growing really nice buds with CFL's... imagine what we can do with HID ;-)
