The main reason is because HPS is a great balance between fantastic results, high efficiency, and low startup cost... but you're fooling yourself if you think that HPS lamps are brighter. Realstyles DIY panels are the 2nd or 3rd most efficient lamps on RIU.. (when dimmed, it's between 50-60% efficiency).. and they are totally overkill!! lol. They are more powerful than you think.

I do think DIY LED veg lamps might be more clear cut in terms of value.

If you keep your veg lamp on 24/7 like me, that means a 400W lamp uses twice as much energy as a 400W lamp in flowering. People using HPS should definitely look into converting their veg lamps to DIY cxb before even considering their flowering lamps. Theoretically, it should pay itself off twice as fast as a flowering lamp if you run 24/0 lighting. I use 5000k vero 18 at 350mA, which is about 47% efficient. With that type of efficiency, you can get away with less than 10W/sqft in veg (for plants under 1 foot).

Its funny you say that. I just told my wife yesterday that once we figure out how to make these, were going to start vegging under the diy led. We run a bank of T-5 lights now for veg. I think this would be a game changer for us. My biggest thing about growing is inexpensive vegging under 24 hours of light.

So you guys have been arguing with everyone for 32 pages telling them that HPS is garbage and inferior to your DIY led............and realstyles doesnt even have a single grow under his belt with them???? WTF dude... How can you argue about what everyone on here HAS ALREADY DONE WITH HPS when he aint even done it once with his "HPS Killer" DIY light? Last I seen of churchhaze ONE AND ONLY grow if IIRC, it looked very amature-ish and low yielding -at best. Maybe someone might take stock in what you preach if you didnt talk so much bullshit to anyone who doesnt agree with you and actually backed up what you said. I dont give 2 shits about your data sheets or your numbers either. I have scrub buds bigger than any pictures you or your buddy realstyles are posting. Nobody cares about your below average popcorn buds grown under disco lights. Churchhaze said that I had an "average" grow and continuously talked shit when I posted pictures of my hps grow at the start of this thread & I am very confident it pulled waaaaay more quality and weight than all 1 of your grows.

Heres a little reminder about my "average" 6oz 3' plant. That was just 1 of 8 under (2) 1KW HPS in a 5x5ish area.
I can afford to pay the electricity for 2 lights cuz I didnt have to go broke building overpriced led lights myself.
BTW....that pic is at just under 6 wks flower. Dont even got orange hairs yet :fire:
Show me some proof of your DIY led's that do this. Oh....thats right, you guys aint even fuckin used em yet.
