He is not running organic so as soon as his bottlea get poured in it will kill everything

FALSE!!!!

Synthetic nutrition does NOT kill off living bio's......It can spank them hard if feeding hard.....But it will not kill them!!!
They play an important role in synthetic growing too.....Almost every major nutrient line has a "zyme" product listed....These are living bio's that they WANT you to add back to your soil/Coco and even in hydro! they do many things in many ways.....Some more then others in soil/coc over hydro.....but ,, they are there!

The EWC, Alfalfa and to a point the Kelp are adding those......The Alfalfa and the Kelp are listed for other reasons that are needed that his 3 part is not bringing to the table in soil.

Why do you want to mix your own soil if your going to use bottled nutrients????The whole point of building your own soil is to not use bottled stuff and have everything your plants need in the mix.If you really want to use bottled stuff and have a soil like grow why not just go with coco???

Does this mix give your plants all the nutes they need without deficiencies?Just wondering for future as I am not organic currently
Yes it does, but all of the strains I run indoors are finished flowering in 8 - 9 weeks so I can't speak on longer flowering times.

Reason is to save soem cash on the already pre max soiless mix like promix. Otherwise I have no need.

I already know that mate no worries.
Will just be going with promix likely in 20 gallon holes.
Unless I can find some bulk perlite and vermiculite around. Wont save me too much anyways. Thanks. K.I.S.S

Hmm,,,,you should still use the EWC!
It should be like this for you.

33% EWC
33% Perlite
33% Peat

add to 1 cubic ft of the above

1C Kelp meal
1C Alfalfa meal
1/2 cup Oyster shell (powdered)
1/2 cup Gypsum
1/2 cup Coarsely ground dried egg shell
1/4 cup Glacial Rock dust or Soft Rock Phosphate

This is a VERY base soil with very LITTLE lasting NPK value......It will provide the living bio's you so badly NEED and are lacking in your formula!
I warn you that if you skip the second part......You will have way to many problems that you will not be able to control...
You MUST use your 3 part with this formula like this
Water - Feed - water - feed - etc.....

You NEED the EWC ,, don't leave it out!

Doc
Thanks, thanks, thanks for posting this. Its clear and concise. But (and we all have one),

I'm not happy about using peat, which has sustainability and environmental issues. Just wondering if you could recommend an alternative or if you feel that peat is necessary in your formula. Coco, perhaps?

EDIT: Woopsie, I just read a post where you specifically say you don't like Coco, so,strike that...

Thanks

Synthetics may not kill off all microbes, but they're mostly rendered useless. If the plants nutritional needs are being met via synthetic nutrients, the plant will stop secreting exudes, and the soil food web will be broken. Not to mention the high levels of P in most synthetics *will* kill off fungi.

Are you honestly basing your opinion on what nutrient companies recommend ("zymes")??

And no, kelp meal and alfalfa meal are not intended to inoculate your medium. Those are meals, which are to be broken down and mineralized by microbes... which are either dormant or killed off by the heavy feeding schedules of synthetics that most companies recommend of their products.

The main benefits to EWC are the microbes they bring, the high CEC, and the buffering ability which will regulate ph. The microbes *may* add some value to a synthetic grow, but only for a short duration during veg where feeding schedules are lighter and mostly N based. They are very expensive to buy, so I'd say the juice ain't worth the squeeze.

....You can get a big ass sack of perlite at one of those farm stores like Agway etc for less than 20 bucks.

True enough!

No,,,,,In hydro the most used "zyme" brakes down cellulose. So it helps breakdown dead root material as the plant sheds it....

Misspoke on kelp meal.....The Alfalfa meal I like most has bio's available to add to the soil. Not a large variety, but some are there (Dr. Earth's). The maker of the Vortex brewer like it to, for the same reason.

Agreed!
