Wax Is Weed’s Next Big Thing And No One Knows If It’s Safe

California dispensaries say butane hash oil, or “wax,” now accounts for 40% of sales — despite potential health risks and home lab explosions on the rise. With no regulation and a lack of good information, stoners turn to self-appointed, and self-interested, “experts” like Matt Rize — but at what cost?

I thought this was a very interesting piece that I read this morning on BuzzFeed.
This an excellent and lengthy article.
Never tried the butane processed product.
I think that I will stick to my water and silk screen hash.

It is really disturbing how all oil makers and hash makers are labeled "bad" due to other people's faults, recklessness, and irresponsibility.

I have heard plenty of bad things about hash, specifically bubble hash. "The major dangers of mold posing great health risk". That is not coming from me, just what I have read and heard. "Why we need regulation and why their method is better"

What a load of crap I say. I guess our governments and pharmaceutical companies need more regulations as well. They also have problems with mold in their "approved" medicines, Tylenol had a recall due to moldy pills not too long ago.

What about government regulated cannabis in Canada? Why is it that, even with their strict standard, radiating, and poison uses, they still had to conduct major recalls due to what? MOLD.

With all of the large corporations that mess up, when they make a critical mistake it effects the masses. However when us little guys have a mess up it is blown way out of proportion and greatly exaggerated, and it only effects the few.

My current method of making a concentrate is 100% organic from A to Z. I utilize organically grown meds and use 100% organic ethanol. No additional chemicals are used, and no heat. I do small scale extractions for personal use. Pretty much only work with an ounce or two of bud. With that I get a whole 6 grams of concentrate. What are the dangers in my method? No heat is used whatsoever. Claiming my method as a fire hazard would be no different than claiming the inside of a bar that serves liquor as a great fire hazard. I guess they could say that mine carries the most danger since it is an indigestible and fully decarbed, no heat used in the process. The great risk is in the potency. So much shame should be brought upon us. (sarcasm)

In my opinion, being a free country and all, if the people want BHO, then they should get BHO. If they want to make their own, they should be allowed to providing they are not posing any danger to those around them with their method of extraction.

Any dispensary providing bad meds get shut down or lose their business anyway. Who will go back to purchase moldy meds? Common sense people, we don't need their regulation.

If people are concerned about a product, all the information is available online. If they feel uncomfortable with it, they can educate themselves and seek out something they do feel comfortable with. That is what I call freedom, which our politicians have stolen from us.

I would agree that if people want BHO they should be able to get it made for a price from an established and legal manufacturer, unfortunately it's not like that; only dispensaries can send their stuff off to these big companies to get BHO safely made. Home made BHO isn't the same as the BHO that comes from these large manufacturers because who can afford the equipment, very few can so most people are open blasting (very dangerious practice if you don't know what your doing) and purging in small vac chambers. Once home growers can send their product to a manufacturer I think BHO safety will increase a lot.

didn't I run some stuff for you?

I would gladly accept a challenge from a large extract company, give us both the same material.

a lot of the guys that run for the caregivers do actually have the same equipment, I run the same ovens as the big guys and @disposition84 has the terpIV which is the extractor from terp that can be used by the dispensaries, and his oven is better then most of the big MIPs facilities.

Yeah you did good, it is dangerous for smaller growers to make BHO that's why I wouldn't attempt it, I don't have the experience or equipment to safely make BHO.

Had wax for the first time a couple months ago. It was good. Tasty, stoney, very nice overall.

Problem is it's no better in any reasonable way than the kif produced by my hand shaker. Not better tasting, not more stoney, hazardous to produce and more costly. I see the attraction if you are at the consumer level buying at dealer prices, but as a producer....

The only chemicals involved in my hand shaker are in the Windex I use to clean my glass table afterward.

Solvents can be purged off if properly done with the proper equipment and it's not as dangerous as one would think if you have the knowledge and proper equipment, that being said there are a ton of dab tard stoners that attempt to make dabs and blow themselves up.

It was definitely not garbage. the superiority complex present here is akin to wall street bankers arguing over which make believe bank policy will screw more people.

You do understand that we all experience cannabis different, right? So your dumbass experience is NOT RELEVANT to me.

If it was only as good as keif it is not good quality bho at all.

Or some retardedly good keif and i want some. :bigjoint:

But i have never smoked keif that made my face feel like it was melting. Good bho will. One rip and you are gone for hours, never had keif like that. Just my 2 cents :peace:

I am a heavy dabber. When you collapse you're own lung you will turn to shatter only. I held the hit in, felt a minor cough then a pop and bam, pneumothorax.
